Have tried really, really hard to fit the whole Rocket gig into my view of Triumph, both past and present, but alas, something about them doesn't gel with me.
Could be their size, or cruiser status, or a number of other things, but the tank badge alone just doesn't sell the concept to me.
Obviously a great bike, and has a strong following, but, modern R's are to Triumph, are like drinking straws are similar to concrete. Can't make that connection.
If it had, say Brough Superior, or even Rudge, on it's tank, then a glimmer would exist.
The big, luxury cruiser just doesn't seem right.

Yeah I do like the rockets mate i rode the rocket and the m109r zuki went for the zuki in the end for the sheer "darth vader batman "look (plus who could not like a HIGH TECH 1800cc vee twin) allthough in saying that the trumpy is one sweet ride glad your enjoying it.
(p.s i am keen to see the new 1600 twin trumpy it looks all good)

You need to hammer one out of a right hander and feel it push you down into the seat with the surge of the acceleration and see if you still thinks its a luxury cruiser.

Not doubt they have a truck load of power/torque etc, and can give a dead man stirrings in his loins.
Thought a bit more about it last night, and sort of narrowed it down to the historic angle.
Kippers and a pot of tea would have been an acceptable feed to most of those that were astride bikes like Turners twins at the time of manufacture.
A simple, bare bones lifestyle that the every day Englishman would have got on with. Where as an ostentatious lifestyle was reserved for the royal/well to do class. (hence my Brough Superior comment).

Fast forward to the R3, and now ontentious-ness has hit the working class, and it looks/feels more like an Texas steak with a jumbo coke being slapped down in front of Wallace and Mildred. (which I'm sure they would of relished).
But just seems a bit over the top. MHO

It's a bike that is ideal for a large man.

It fits me the best of any bike - ever. And I still make it look small - motu says like a 125.

If I was designing it I would make it slightly larger/taller.
