[Hornet 250] vs [250 09 Ninja]

Well this is my first bike of my own, but I know how to ride one fairly well.
I am planning on having the bike for about 3 years at least through university so I need a reliable one. But having said that I also want one with some good power to keep me happy and keeping up with my brother. I can spend about 8K and so the hornets I am looking at are about $8000-9000 but have less than 5000 kms. If I got a ninja I would probably get a new one just to be sure. Any way I would like to hear your guys opinions, I would probably prefer the hornet if I can get a good enough one, theres a 2006 one for $8.5K on trade-me with 6000 kms and that looks about what I want.

wow another wana be hornet rider.... well here yah go 20000km but worth it and seriously look at gi joe 100,000km almost and still going with out a problem what so ever - oh and look at all the bling on it :-) - can spend the rest of you money on important things like book's for uni :-)

Not that I wont think about your bike, Id just like to hear some other opinions and my brothers.

If they're made anything like the CBR's, Nomis' ride is a baby and good for at least another 80,000k's or maybe another 20 years if you don't do massive mileage.

Mines an '88 with over 80,000 k's, it's fine...
Although I did put an '07 motor in it which helps.

Hornet is faster and crashes cheaper due to lack of fairings.
But Ninja is sexier, uses less fuel and cheaper maintenance. (2 vs 4 cylinder)
Hope this helps, though most of the points are quite marginal.

Have a sit and ride on both and see what you think, this is the real test.

Would definitely recommend the hornet over the kwaka, but i am biased... i lurv my lil hornet, and would keep her if i could afford to

I have no experience with either ninja or hornet sorry... but i rode my suzuki gsx two fiddy for four years on my full (didn't have enough dosh to upgrade) and she kept going well... you treat her right (services etc) and she will do you well! I suggest you get it from someone you know or semi-know, so that you have an idea of how its been treated! OR take her for a test ride.. and see how she feels!

if i could foot the difference... id be looking to get myself a second... unfortunately, i can't! Sorry! haha
i would probably look at CBR and street triple long before NC30... but thats just me! But of course, R1 is nice too... haha. happy hunting!

ah, another newbie who thinks the age of a bike dictates it's reliablility

in MY opinion, a 20 year old honda CB with 50000km can will be just as reliable as a brand new kawasaki. fortunately this kawasaki "ninja" is basically the same bike as the gpx so they've ironed out most the bugs already... until the bottom end im/explodes on you...

in my experience, well that's where i get my opinion from - if it's in good nick it'll last as long as you keep it

only thing to watch out for with the hornet is that because it has big-bike tyres you pay big-bike prices for them, whereas the gpx only has two carbies and small tyres to worry about during the running in period.

with 8 grand to blow, seeing as you can already ride, I would get a mint cbr250rrrrrr if i was you.

hornet is WAY sexier than that POS "ninja". heck even the zxr250 looks better than the ninja... ok to be fair the zxr is a nice bike, so i'll say even the fxr looks better than a ninja. seriously. the ninja is par with a hyosung, except the hyosung looked cool when they were first released

but ultimately, yes, have a ride and see what you want.

and whatever you do, ALWAYS take someone with you to check a bike. specifically someone who knows what they're looking at, and make sure to check everything. doesn't matter if the bike is 3 months or 30 years old always have someone - too many private sellers are selling cause they got a quote from a mechanic after thrashing the bike without oil for 6 months or something to that effect

tyres - sheesh try $600 a set for the number 1 diablos I have , prob the best you can get for the hornet

And its called oggy nobs dude good investment - mine also has fitted
