Update
Bruce flew to Turkey beginning of the month and has been reunited with his son. While this was court ordered access, the last time he tried, Dylan was immediately uplifted and hidden away somewhere.
Prior to Bruce leaving, the PM Office contacted him to say that they had written to the Turkish Court and that they were taking special interest in the case.
Court Case 17th February
The Public Prosecutor will open the case for the return of Dylan to New Zealand in Istanbul on behalf of the Republic of Turkey on February 17.
Dylan's father, Bruce, will travel to Istanbul late in January for his Turkish Family Court ordered access to his baby son for February. The court granted access to Dylan for the months of February and August while the case is being heard.
Last August, Dylan's mother took him out of the city to an unknown destinations in defiance of the
Turkish court order giving access to Bruce. To date, there has been no news
of legal repercussions for this blatant contempt of court.
Dylan’s father, Bruce Laybourn, declared his “eternal gratitude” to all who had made the case reopening possible – in particular the former New Zealand Prime Minister, Helen Clark, and the Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
The Director General of Turkey’s Ministry of Justice, Judge Ahmet Firat, announced on November 18, 2008, that his Ministry had forwarded documents in order to file a law suit in support of the request for the return of Dylan Rennick Laybourn to his nation of birth, New Zealand.
