If you were going to build a bike...

... and were allowed to take parts from the major manufacturers, then what would you have?

    I'd go for:

    Suzuki gearbox (slick, smooth)
Yamaha clutch (light as a feather)
Ducati frame (stiff, inspires good handling)
Kawasaki engine (somehow more raw and exciting... though I love the GSX650F's motor)
Yamaha R1 brakes (very specific, but I've used them and they're amazing)
    Honda finish?

Anything I've missed? Or what would your suggestions be?

I'd buy a KTM 990SM, then want honda's endless reliability and fantastically cheap servicing, and wide aftermarket parts availability

But then it wouldn't be a KTM any more... it would a crazy honda

Mine would simply be a re-engineered 09 R6 with a crossplane crank and uneven firing order, proper ohlins, and a lightweight trellis frame.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

Id use Japanese to design all the bits that require reliability and Italians to design anything that requires beauty.

Well, I'm putting it into practice:

Honda frame, half Yamaha/Suzuki headlight, Suzuki indicators, Guzzi handlebars, Yamaha piston and cylinder sleeve...

Unfortunately it will still have a Honda gearbox

Well, my bucket racer stands at -

Suzuki RGV150 frame (extensively modified), tank & front guard
Loncin 150 Engine (Honda GL145 copy) with a few mods
Yamaha TZR250 front wheel and brake unit.
    Yamaha FZR400 rear wheel.
Suzuki RG50 front brake on the rear
    Yamaha TZ250 rear tail piece
    Suzuki RGV250 seat
    Kawasaki KXF250 Muffler
    Honda GL145 Header pipe

Getting close to what I want now as the pieces all seem to work well together.
(you can see a pic of it on my profile with the awesome pit-girl)

    Yamaha R6 chassis with a TSS500LC engine.

    Yum.

    Still love my Kawasaki's though.

    Honda finish? Yeah right.

    I'd go for
Aprilia RSV4 engine (V4 is just nasty) or a road version of RCV12 v5.
    Honda handling and frame
Yamaha's digital toys (throttle by wire, traction control, fancy clock etc.)
    Ducati (Brembo) brakes
    Ducati magnesium wheels
    and...

Actually it is a silly idea...

    Bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha.... etc etc.

There's some really nice aftermarket manufacturers you might want to include:
    Termignoni for the zorsts.
    CRG for levers, etc.
MacDonald Motor Trimmers for a seat.
    Marchesini for the wheels.
Brembo and/or Braking for brake components.

    etc etc.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

ah... but the KTM already has marchesini wheels, brembo brakes and WP suspension What I meant was that for the 990SM, having not been released in the US, your bits are restricted to KTM catalogue, and their prices...
