    FFM adv helmet

    Anyone got one of these?
Saw it in Kiwirider advertised at RRP $200. 'Cheaper' alternative to the Shoei, but obviously not as high-tech.
Just curious as to what they are like to wear as an alternative to off-road hemet and goggles?

I tried some less expensive models but just couldn't find one that felt as comfortable as the Shoei so stumped up the cash anyway as I figured I might be wearing it alot and want to be as comfortable as poss! At the end of the day different head shapes may find the less expensive models comfortable in which case might as well go for saving some dosh I guess! Unfortunately my fat head only felt comfortable in the Shoei...grrrrr!

At least your were not most comfortable in the tour-x, those puppies are expensive. Especially when you go for the long way down models

I went for the BMW Enduro helmet, which was the most comfortable of the ones I tried (hornet ds, tour-x, hjc-xs), but like Paladin figured I would be wearning it heaps, why not spend some money.

One I would consider but never got a chance to try one on was the Airoh S4

The FFM are okay entry level helmet, fairly basic but everything works on them alright, just make sure you try one on first...various shell sizes/moulds fit everyone differently.
I had an Airoh S4 for a while, they are a bit small fitting. For example, if you normally take a Med, go a size larger. They seem well made, but do whistle a bit more than my Arai Tour-X..... a lot of that is contributed to wind buffeting off your fairing screen. Thommo, if you're staying with the KLX for a while, they don't have much of a screen and your speeds won't be excessively high on-road, so wind buffeting shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Ooh thats a nice lookin helmet - my only complaint when I got the HornetDS was the lack of interesting graphics, my plain white one does seem boring!

Whereas my head wasn't that comfortable in the Shoei or the Arai. I eventually got the Zeus which I really like, plus it was cheap. I find it really comfortable, good venting and beefier chin section than the Shoei, plus lots of room to get a camelback hose in to drink while riding.

The one downside is I'm starting the suspect the internal fittings may not last that long.

Oh and the Airoh S4 does make you look like you've got a bird head on your shoulders...they're kinda pointy at the front. Think the old Spy vs Spy cartoons from MAD comics.

always wanted to look like a bird...

Must get me an enduro helmet. My HJC just doesn't cut it anywhere except the motorway, not to mention it just doesn't fit with the look...
Where's the best place to go in Auckland for them?

The enduro's are quite birdy looking too.

I got mine from Experience BMW, which I think is probably the only place in Auck who do them.

Looks great with the tinted visor.

After reading your post I rang Budget M/C spares, they haven't got any in stock but can get them,$179.
Unfortunatly, they only come with the hideous skull graphics as shown on the TradeMe ad from Emoto.
Still, not a bad price but would like to see one in person to get an idea of what they have and haven't got for features.

I don't know about the FFM ones but my HJC is average.
A bit noisey, a bit uncomfortable after a few hours, the screws work loose after a while, but I know when to tighten them as the peak hums at open road speeds and the visor sneaks down a bit when I want it up, and sneaks up a bit when I want it down
I do like the quick release strap though, and plenty of room to drink through
    I don't think I'd get another
Mrs Jatz HJC is reeeeeal comfy and quiet, and a bit lighter too

    Airoh S4

One I would consider but never got a chance to try one on was the Airoh S4

I've had an Airoh S4 for a couple of months and am impressed with it. Very light, comfortable and rugged looking fittings, doesn't mist up, great finish on the shell and is stable at 110/120 on my totally unprotected XT. It's a bit noisy (compared to my Arai sports full face), but I wear earplugs anyway so not really an issue. It was about $350 from Motoworks in Christchurch and they also mailorder from their website.

ADV rider had a review that I read before getting it.

    Cheers

    new helmet

Been looking at those, but have been wondering how the peek (peak) handles the wind when doing road miles.
Does it force your head down?? or try to rip your helmet off backwards if you look up??
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

I've had no problems with the peak - no appreciable down or up forces, but I was used to riding around in my Lazer MX helmet and goggles most of the time, so fairly immune to "peaking" issues :-)
