Bugger, the bike's in the South Island!

There's a bike that I'd really like to buy that's in Nelson. I'm picking it will cost a small fortune to get it up to good ol' Matamata on a bike transporter!

On the extreme off chance, is anyone coming up that way within the next few weeks with a van or truck or something? I'd be happy to spark up the BBQ and crack open a few beers to celebrate your arrival and that of my (first road) bike.....I'll fix ya up with fuel vouchers too.

I wouldn't trust her with it unless the bike was 3 ft tall.

do some math and figure the cost of having it transported, versus getting rides off friends/hitching/family to wellington ferrying over the ditch, taking a $30 shuttle from picton to wellington, then riding her home.

I could ride it to the ferry for ya if ya like put it on board, tie it down.
You could get to Wellington and pick it up. Good excuse for a road trip.

i could pick it up at the ferry terminal and store in my garage until you pick it up, or someone else heads up your way,
i head to taupo in 2 weeks, i could strip it down a bit and tie it down in the station wagon, (manage to get 2 bikes in the back )

Looks like things are shaping up to be a possibility!! Wanted to suss transport out before taking the next steps. Cheers for your humbling generosity.

I'll phone the guy when I get home from work tonight and talk some turkey. Anyone keen to take a look at the bike and give her a test run? Make sure it's not a pile of poo.

We'll go from there, exciting times!!

After you have it checked your best bet is to find a way to get there and ride the thing back. It'll be an enjoyable trip. I'm guessing a flight down, getting the seller to pick you up and riding home would be comparable or cheaper than transport.

It's my preferred choice of picking up a bike. The road trips are usually fun.

Good point mate, I'd be in like flyn but am going for my BHS Cert this weekend so only in the initial stages of getting legal I definately wouldn't have the confidence to ride it all the way home at this stage, particularly as a lone biker chick.

Just had a chat with the people at InterIslander and it turns out that it's against their policy to transport a vehicle without a passenger

you could pay for a rider and bike, and give the ticket to some random foot passager. in exchange for them pushing the bike off the ferry at the other end.
