Grow a pair and just do one Trail Ride... you might find you like it.

The trick is to leave 10 to 20 minuts after they open the gates. cause all the "Crusty" wanabies race off at the start, so you can plod along.

The www.epicevents.co.nz rides will be coming up soon, they are awesome rides to go on, very well organised.

    Epic Events rides
    * Trail Blazer - April 19th, 1 day only.
    * Desert Storm - was in January. That was fuckin awesome.
    * Berm Buster - dates to be announced in next 2 weeks.
    * Pumice Blast - dates to be announced in next 2 weeks.

Quad's.... hahahaha those things make me laugh. 4 wheels and they cant even get round a full course with out something going wrong.... hahahahaha

I've done more than my share of trail rides over the last 20 years. The thing that amuses me, is that 90% of the Crusty wannabes can't even ride. They walk the walk, with $$$$ worth of gear, but first slippery hill..........

As for the other 10%..................well I'll just shut up now.

Hi Pablo, I have ridden the Tussock Buster (As it is known now) the last 2 years and in my mind is the best trail ride I have done in the North Island. There are a variety of tracks to suit all types of bikes and riding abilities and I think you would easily do it on the Beema. Lots of open fast tank tracks and mainly flat ground make for a great riding experience. There are other more gnarly loops with steep single track through bush and river crossings but these are optional. I will definitly be going this year and the camping is very good also.

    Cheers Jez

As an idication of level of difficulty of loops at Tussock Buster, the intermediate loop of approx 30 kms was ridden by my 6yr old son on his KTM50 last year quite successfully. Mind you large balls syndrome is hereditary!!!!!!!

Maybe compared to some other rides but if we make them too hard we get too many moaners.

We don't see many (actually I don't recall any) big heavy adv bikes on our rides. Our trail ride series flyer attached if anyone is interested. Our next ride (15th March) is approx 25km forestry loop (could be longer depending on the weather).

    Cheers

Mark you were asking about Whangamomona Rd, and if it links up with upper Mangaehu rd on another thread. Yes it does, it is one of the ways back out to SH43. Also have a look at this link as it has a bit of info on it.

its been high on my list for a while - the only question is when.
I'm rooted weekend wise for all of March so its either tag it onto the King Country Ride or go up early April...

Maybe - leave early on a Saturday and slab it up to Stratford for lunch then up 43 then right onto Ohura Rd - Mangaotuku Rd - Mangaehu Rd - Upper Mangaehu Rd to Aotuhia then out to Whangamomona via Whangamomona Rd and stay at the pub on Sat night. They do a good feed there

I'm sure there would be fun things to do on Sunday on the way home....

Guys - I ask that if you do the Whanga Road you please try to keep the track damage to a minimum, despite the temptation to 'spin it up'. Every year us 4WDers pay for digger hire and contribute personal time towards track maintenance so that the road may remain open.

In recent years there have been 'some difficulties' with certain groups causing damage, leaving gates open, stock worrying and generally getting the backs up of the local land owners and general hostilities. The station owners are welcoming of responsible users, but are 'wary of certain elements' using the track and accessing their properties via it.

For those who do not know, there is a Collection Jar on the bar at the Whanga Pub to which the 4WD community has been contributing $10 per vehicle to fund the annual digger hire. It is purely voluntary and has no legal standing, but support is always gratefully received.

Also, be aware if traveling through after rainfall: the Papa clay base can be seriously slippery with some very large vertical drops of the edge at the Whanga end (Took us 2.5 hours once to move 3 fully equipped 4WDs across a 60m section!)

Thanks for the info Giles - we'll feed the tin if/when we get up there

That dakar of your must have cobwebs all over it?

Do you think adventure bikes - even ridden irresponsibly (not that we would ) - would have a significant impact compared to the average track destroying 4wd?.
