Like the year (93 or 94 was it?) the Dakar was stopped short cause they couldnt cross a river? Peterhansel was the only - and I mean only- person to get across.

Apparently Yamaha withdrew in 1994 because of a disagreement with the rules.
Peterhansel didn't compete as a result.
I think also that the stage was cancelled after the bikes got through. The trucks couldn't make it and the decision was made to cancel the stage
    Cagiva took 1st, 2nd, 4th and 6th place....There was a lone Katoom there though...

Wifey and I watched the whole series over about two weeks. Serious dakar fever at the end of it but that has settled a little at the moment. I recon I could have talked wifey into selling the house for a dakar car at feaver pitch (a car would be better than not doing it at all!!!).

Two French competitors, all set up and at the end of the day converted the truck into making Pomme Frites (chips) for the competitors and support...
The truck was a real real Dakar entrant and they finished, set up the chippie and cooked!
I would have to say that they would have been millionaires, I mean, F@@K, why do it other than you are mad or rich, just to cook french fries at the end....lol
