Herro, Just wanting some help with kdx200s

    Hey guys,

Well after having a blat on a mates dirtbikes and enjoying myself immensly (the whole going tits out, crashing every 5 min cos I suck and generally getting dirty and thrown all over the pace whilst going insanely quick appealed to me).

So I have been nuturing the possibility of buying a dirtbike for myself. I have been pointed in the direction of the kdx200 which I have been told has good parts availabilty and is quick enough.

The problem is I dont know much when it comes to dirtbikes as in model reputation, what I should be looking out for etc and as such have come to ask for advice. People who have ridden/owned/destroyed ones opinions would be great lol.

It is a thought at the moment as student budget probably cant factor in a new bike haha but thought become reality one day.

Why hadnt I ridden dirtbikes sooner

Hey mate! Yeah come to the dirt side!

KDX is a great all rounder starter bike. If you think that you'll outgrow that pretty fast, jump into a 125 MX'r. You will either sink or swim on that...... LOL

What sort of dike was your mates????? You need to decide what sort of riding you want to do, what type of bike (2 or 4 stroke) and then start looking at the different types. I have a 125 mx'r because I love the sh!t my pants feeling I get all the time......

Def a good bike to start out on for trail riding. Very forgiving engine and an all round great dirt bike.
Go for the 95 or later model as they didnt change too much after that (just graphics etc).
Depending on the type of riding you do and how fast you get the only thing that will start letting you down is probably the forks as they are a little softly sprung but you will only get to the limits when you start charging really hard or getting big air.

had 2 ~'93 kdx's in the garage before.
were prob great bikes back in then but they needed a fair bit of work to freshen them up and bring them to ~ok.

I rode a couple of xr250's and was surprised by the comparision.
not as much power but the 4stroke and plush suspension would make for a good learners i would think.
very reliable but don't expect the susp to land mx jumps.

Worth the time to read up on what to look for when buying an older used bike.

Bulletproof bikes - plenty of them around for parts.
Not many places you cant go with them.
Whether you think you can or cant - you will always be right.

I've got one and can recommend for a beginner rider. Haven't compared with others but goes good. Being 2 stroke its easy to maintain, was able to do the bottom end without much drama. Would say the front suspension lets it down but then I have only started noticing that after a year of riding. Probably can sort that with springs etc but then I'd rather get a bike with newer design now.

great starter bike, great parts supply and heaps of potential, we have done most things to them and can answer most questions,

agreed the 95 and later H models ones are the pick, but if you can fidn a tidy E model (89-94) they go pretty good as well,

I asked the same question 2 years back

Got the same answer, buy a KDX200 for a starter bike you cannot beat them, easy to work on and plenty of good fun.
    Always seem to start,
