Probably because experience has shown that many can't. Thats what "addiction" means.

I love this argument. Be it for P, Alcohol, Tobacco whatever. "If it were a free country drugs wouldn't need regulation... neither would speeding, road rules etc etc"

Unfortunately this argument falls over when the actions affect other members of the community. If drunks didn't drive and crash into people, beat their wives and random strangers in the pub etc.

    Free country argument = Fail

In my fairly extensive experience with drugs (alcohol is not only included in that bracket, it's a major player) there are many people who simply can't handle particular drugs in any quantity yet others can shove down truckloads. I agree to a certain extent that it's your bod, you choose but again I'll fly the 'education not legislation' flag.

Some folk have more addictive natures than others and P is highly addictive. I wouldn't like to see P made legal, E yes, pot yes (tax the users, like tobacco and grog) so there's at least some small amount of cash to save their sorry arses when they finally realise they're alcoholics or nicotine addicts. I have a sister who simply cannot stop smoking. It's sad to watch. I have a mate who's blown two inheritances and plenty more on P, also sad to witness. It was their choice to start though, as it was mine, but I have a less addictive nature, kicked the ciggies, the pot (generally speaking), the P and a bunch more...I'm ONLY an alcoholic now. Lucky me.

Talking about freedom and being free are two different things.

I think the scooter fag he mentioned was me. Freedom is all well and fine, unfortunately you can't have a completely free society (without some guidelines and responsibility)... simply because without some sort of responsiblity to the rest of the community the place falls apart.

Actually I guess you could have a complete anarchist society, not sure it would be a particularly pleasant place to live
