Cheers Jim! It does look kinda different - so used to seeing DR's with white rear shrouds.

Well based on our experience on Orongorongo, I guess being sensible on time may be smart the first time round there; we might meet something on the private land that eats into our time! Lookin forward to lunch/coffee at Toppys will be good to drive us onwards heehee! We can just follow Marks's drool trail!
    Cheers, Dave

For the avoidance of doubt, while I know the time to meet is to be 0900, is this 0900 at Featherston, Martinborough or Pirinoa? Despite talk about the other locations I am assuming Featherston is still to be the start point?

Found some (pre-electronic) pictures of trips over "the Desert" sand area and down the steep slope down to White Rock on 1) the demo Dakar in 2000 and 2) DRZ400. I recall now I came off the Dakar after the sand area, falling hard against a rock wall beside the track. However, I took the full force of the fall with my left knee, which by being caught between the bike and a large rock, held it clear of the ground and prevented any damage to Motorad's bike! My knee however hurt for many weeks. Still ordered one.

    hello
    0:9:00 at mobil featherston.

im sure aslan is rallying the troops over at caltex.

as for the track, im unsure of condition as its been around 25yrs since ive been through there, as we used to camp on the coast as a family outing in the old days,, big canvis pole tent, landrover, 14foot fryan boat.
we used to roll the boat down the beach on posts.
and pull it back up with the land rover.... the good ole days

See you in the morning peoples

Don't wait for me, I'll be leaving here around 8ish and bound to be running late.
I should be there by nine, but if not I'll catch up on route.
