Aux power plug?

Hi guys and Gals,

My bike has a small aux power plug (after market) on the dash 1/2 the size of a normal cig lighter plug.

Can someone please enlighten me as to wear I can purchase
a male plug please.

It's called a merit plug/connector just for your reference.

It's a DIN/ISO standard socket, the exact designation for which escapes me at present. 4165?

It's commonly used in camping, rated at 15 or 16 Amps. Positively latching plug, not just held in by the ground spring-contacts so it backs-out with vibrations/bumps like the big, fat ones.

For the record, BMW dealers do a socket kit for their bikes, which is where I got one many years ago. Probably not the cheapest, but came with in-line fuse, spade connectors and a flip-top cap for the socket, keeping the worst of the weather out.

There are a load of cigarette lighter plugs which have a red band around the end which comes of revealing - Ta Dah! - a DIN/ISO plug. Can be handy for use with items used on the bike and the car.

Thanks to this thread I discovered the Merit plug. I had been looking for sometime for a smaller plug and socket for the Radar detector. I bought an inline socket and plug today from Jaycars. Dick Smith didn't list them.

Two pics showing socket and tank bag plugged in to power the essentials.

Marine supply shops are a great source. Theirs tend to be better made, rugged and waterproof compared to the stuff you can find elsewhere. Also try auto-electrical suppliers. And apparently tractor shops; the septics love to quote a John Deere part number.

You can get the small plugs with adapters to fit the bigger sockets, so you can use the same device in either size. (I see someone already mentioned that.)
