Sheks for a moment there I thought you were calling me a dickhead - you a lucky man. Get your hand of it and price your old hog accordingly instead of trying to get your money back on extras, people don't care that you were silly enough to pay $320 for a plastic fake chrome skull from the harley dealership.
Prices of new HDs have fallen for the past few years as Harley realise that Kiwis earn shit money (it's frustrating to visit Australia and see the bikes for less dollars when salaries there are generally higher). Anyway, I suppose people are reluctant to take a big hit in order to trade up and that's why they're asking unrealistic prices.
I bought a new HD recently (96" Fat Bob) and it was just a few grand more than a lot of second-hand bikes up to eight years old. It's a f'kin' good bike but I still think my Guzzi has more character. Maybe I'll feel differently when I've had it for a few years. Goes like shit off a shovel though (comparatively speaking).
The shit money has nothing to do with it, - more that the glut of HD's on NZ roads make it a supply-and-demand thing, they aren't as hard to get hold of anymore.
Ask anybody how many HD's were around 20 years ago and what their relative prices were like for an example of that.
Winding up drongos, foil hat wearers and over sensitive KBers for over 14,000 posts...........![]()

Dead right, and in fact the exchange rate was worse back then too (as were HD's! All BS aside they have improved quite a bit since then) I remember working as a salesman in a Hamilton bike shop and even though I wasn't a big HD fan I used to love trading or buying them as the sticker price and relative scarcity made them a reasonably easy high dollar sale which of course meant good commission.
Most of them were bought by people who came down from Coromandel and paid cash in brown paper bags that often had remnants of horticultural samples left in the bottom....
Now the resale is really no better than your average Japanese bike, and much the same can be said for most European bikes now too.
Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes. After that, who cares? ...He's a mile away and you've got his shoes
Yeah the buyers set the price.
Like Harley guy in here said while back they will have to drop and "some" finally are ?
Fatboy Himmm "Arnie would be proud"Kool looking Stead !
How much more torque does your 96 feel to have over a 1340 ? What size ya Guzzie Molly ?
I enjoyed my 1200 Sportster, it was fun to ride and sounded great. There was no getting away from the fact that it was very very old school, but actually I never saw that as a deficiency.
In a way its the typically american car and bike industry - leave the old technology, but bling up the paint.
That actually doesnt matter if the purchaser isnt looking for a playstation.
And I got what I paid for it when I sold it.
On the other hand, I sold it.. it did need to go..
Good on you Patrick for helping the fella out. I'm unlikely to get pinged drunk.. but if I ever lose my licence for speeding, I hope you are there to drive my bike / v8 / classic car somewhere safe.
David must play fair with the other kids, even the idiots.
Come Forkhead as that the best you can do after taking things "Personal" I did not blanket all, which lends itself to you "touching your own nerve" being honest with yourself for once that your bike is over priced.
This is downside of guys like you that opted for the easy route and dropped out in the 4th form, your level of education shows - economic studies in the 5th form at your school A ?
Again, it's all relative etc. but the new 96" motor seems to have a shitload of midrange and lunges forward with each gear change all the way up to and including sixth (needs more ground clearance though). That said, I had an Evo Springer a few years ago and it never felt like it was lacking.
Guzzi is a 2001 1100 Sport. It's only 80bhp and is also heavy but I just love it (pics in my gallery).
Some things you buy with your heart, not your head so resale isn't really a factor. It doesn't mean a person's dumb; just passionate.
