I fracked up the tides so it was high tide not low tide (I blame poor code on the metserivce website, looks fine in IE, in firefox the table is all messed up gets very confusing).
Seems to render fine in my copy of firefox... (3.0.8) :-)

Lets see, extrapolating backwards, that would have put high tide at around the 1951 mark. That sounds about when we were there.

That was quite the mission. I must say though, I do feel exercised. I've yet to decide if that's a good feeling or not.

That one is easy to read, try the metservice one.

That is the metservice one. It's about halfway down the page:

Stop wiggling. We have you pinned fair and square.

That is the one I was using, but the one you have is much easier to read.
But you are right, I fracked it up.

    What a mad mad ride
    Beautiful sunset off Wilson Road
Bush pigs making a racket in the forest.
    Stealth Quad bikes
Saw dead shark on the beach (about 2-3 feet long)
A few rabbits on the Rimmer Road exit from the beach (one almost ran under Paddy)
Got to see how much Sam managed to eat for dinner, and seeing what Paddy did to his dinner before he ate it.

Was pretty hard riding in the soft sand in the dark, its quite a bit harder than during daylight. But made for a good challenge.
I am wondering if maybe we would have been best to have just headed back out Wilson road. but that I guess we had our reasons for heading down the beach (had to be there to truely understand these reasons).
On that note, I am wondering should we report what we saw/heard?

So if the tides are the same as in 1951 does that mean global warming is a myth?

Good question. Ultimately everything around that was fishy to me, suppose as responsible citizens we should tell someone?

Anyone keen for a ride this saturday?
I am thinking of heading all the way up to the Bombing range.

Low tide should be around the 10/11am mark on saturday, so that could work.

Anyone know if you can get to the Bombing range from the South Head road end?

I'll have to check with my wife; however, I would just like to affirm that low tide will indeed be at 1000 on Saturday. :-)

It'd be neat to get right up onto the spit at the top. What is the status of the land there? Is it defence access only?

I found this link. It's fishing focussed, but has a good description of the varying areas and the tide heights (just read down to the A,B,C..... section):

Next time you are stuck at the bottom of a sand dune, and you look up and see me looking down at you, I want you to think about every jip you gave me about getting the tides wrong. :slap:

It just occured to me (in fact sometime yesterday when I was handed a pager) that I am on-call this week. So riding up toward South Head would be out for me. :-(

I wonder about next Saturday though?
