Hi guys
Just wondering if anyone has gone to aus sat there full and come back to there full here?
As I understand it you can sit your full over there straight after you have your learners? if you have a nz learner liscence can you just go over and sit your full straight away?
and whats the deal when you come back? just pop into ltsa and they will swap it to nz full for you? surely it cant be this easy?

I don't know, but I was told by some random dude (heya John) that years ago you could get your full in NZ right away by doing an advanced course.

Sorry I will provide more info links etc, this is not based on hear say... On paper it looks as if it can be done but in practise I want to see if anyone has actually done it.

My son had his learners in New Zealand when he shifted to Darwin. He had to get an Australian learners and start from scratch. If he had a New Zealand full licence then he could have simply converted to an Australian full.

Don't know about Aus licencing system. But if you come back into NZ with an overseas full licence you can use it for 1 year.
If at the end of that 1 year you would not have progressed through to a full licence in the NZ system, you will need to sit another test. Well that's what happened to me 8 years ago so it's prolly the same....

However, you're right about how you don't have to sit your restricted over in Australia (in Victoria anyway) but every state has their own rules, so do double check!
To answer your other question, no it won't be as easy as just getting your full in Australia and getting it converted here in NZ straight away, unless you have a way of manipulating on how long you have held your licence.

That's right, you can use your licence legally for 1 year in NZ before you have to convert it.
Forgot to add in the last post.
Just if you have held your Aussie FULL for less than 2 years, and you want to convert to a NZ full, LTSA will make you sit the NZ Full test, that's all.

Remember every state has a differenet licensing system.
With Queensland, it's definitely a no-go. In the past couple of years they've overhauled their motorcycle licensing dramatically, it's a lot tighter than it used to be. Maybe you could've done it before.
In Queensland, your learner's license isn't worth anything -- you can't even ride on it while you're there. Actually in Qld they don't have learner's licenses -- they have a learner's PERMIT which is nothing but a piece of paper you get to say `this person is allowed to learn how to drive/ride'. It's not a proper license at all.

They use to have a permit over here at one time. I must have been about 17 years of age when I had mine. You simply applied for it.
