Thing is with the Ruapuna issue is that the track had its open days extended from 120 days to 360+ and hours extended from 7pm to 11pm. I'm not siding with these people at all, but their arguement isn't simply the noise.

11pm? Is it flood lit or something?

Do they have open days every day?

They'll be talking about the speedway

Well basically as soon as the scale and intensity of the activity increases, (especially that significantly) the track loses it's 'existing use rights'.

I can see the residents point. (if this is the case)

I think people are getting confused between the speedway and the race track since they are beside each other, in some people minds they are the same thing.

The residents sound reasonable enough. From the newspaper article I read, they would be more than happy to see the 120 day use reinstated. Also the noise level was lifted from 85db to 90db when the track use was opened up. So for alot the conditions have changed since they moved in.

Should've been a bit clearer I suppose, as the others have said that's the speedway. The race track has two open days a week, Tuesday and Friday, $80 for a full day. But I believe it can now operate on pretty much any day.

    Rant on
The first time I saw all that rubbish I honestly thought a rubbish truck must've tipped over. As I got closer I realised it went for quite some distance on both sides of the road. Never seen anything like it- bottles, cans, bags, carparts piled up on both sides of the road for what, maybe half a k?

"Nice' boy racers like to use the line that it's only a small minority causing all the trouble. That fucking huge mess was NOT caused by a 'handful of trouble makers'. There must've been hundreds of the fuckers out there. I read one article where a guy had his way blocked and his car jostled by these arseholes, all he was trying to do was drive home. That had to be pretty scary.

Personally, any sympathy I might have had for boy racers has gone out the window after seeing that. Unfortunately I suspect that Ruapuna is being perceived as guilty by association.

You can cut the sound levels quite a lot , with careful planting of a shrubbery ( said the Knights thaat goe Ni) and inside this hedging is Sound proofing stuff . polystyrene I think ? Saw it done once ,,cant remember where m but I remember thinking , that was a good idea ,,, I think they used shade cloth to wrap the syrene , so that it couldnt get out ...
They use design to stop sound of motorways reaching residential areas here in Japan ,,,and its very effective

and as for the rubbish , I am sure that some of those ,,,dropkicks who cause it would be on community service ...get the buggers out there to pick the stuff up ,,,, and not over 2000000000 weekends, no make the little S$%^&* work 2 km per day cleared and spick and span including grass cutting etc ...

Well the police ran a operation there a couple of weeks back and took the little fuckers by suprise, ticketed practically everyone there confiscated a few cars and pink/green stickered a bunch more, doubt it'll keep them away for long though

Saw that on TV, probably a few that were just average kids but a shit-load of drop-kick wasters there too, whinging on about how unfair it all is.

Good to see a bunch that thought they were sharp getting shafted.

Yip as long as you pay the right "consultation" fees then alot of your problems can go away.
