World champ (franklin girl) at Ssang Yong Motochamps this weekend.

From local paper "Franklin Life" August 23 2006.

headline.. "World Champ will make appearance at Ssang Yong Motocross Nationals"

The first round of the Ssang Yong National Moto cross Championship at Mercer Sandtrack on saturday and sunday, August 26 & 27, promises to give lots of exsposure to local riders, including the 2006 World cahmpion woman rider, Catherine Prumm of Bombay.

Catherine has recently returned from her victoroius tour of USA and Europe and will be rding in the womans class with other members of Pukekohe Motorcycle Club.

they are Nellie and Claudia Knarston, sharon stone and Karina weaver and Australian now living in Pukekohe, who is amking her first apperance in the nationals.

Thw woman will all be riding Kawasakis for MR Motorcycles in Pukekohe (Co- owned by KBer Scott411) as will the local men competing in the 125cc class Craig Brown, James Sutherland, Hamish Stone, Jim Orton and Luke Ramsey.

other members of Pukekohe MCC competing in the 125cc class will be Stephen Smith on a Honda, Nigel smith on a KTM and Jesse Lim on a Yamaha, while Kyle Smith will be competing in the 250cc class on a Kawasaki and Micahel Rule will be competing on a KTM in the 500cc class.

Scott Wilkins, president of the Pukekohe MCC, says that this is the first time the nationals have been held on a sand based track.

"This means the track will be rougher than normal, but it will provide a test of endurance for the racing competitors" says Scott.

The Mercer Sand track is easily accessible from SHway one and is next to the Mercer Service center.

Racing starts at 12.00 noon on saturday with practice and qualifying races.
admission is free on saturday, but for the championship events on Sunday which start at 09.00, admission is NZ$10.00 for adults and NZ$5.00 for children under 15.

    article ends.

okay people please try to get along and support this event PMCC always run bloody good events, and Scott and his Comapny "MR Motocycles" are really into helping local riders get on in Moto X, so don,t forget to support them..

The only reason I only ride in the Iron man Class is I have no friends left to enter the two man events,
    my own fault really.

So,shall I go for a fang on the gravel out west and end up at Mercer to watch a bit of action on the way home? Or do I tell the boys we are going to watch the motocross, drag them up there, get them cold and wet, totaly bored and end up saying ''No way ever are going to a stupid bloody motocross race in our lives, what made you think we would be interested in that crap you stupid old man!''

I think I'd rather go for a ride by myself and watch some racing than share a car with a couple of grumpy boys....so how do I expose them to my interests without putting them off for life?

    Free beer ?

It's great to see Kiwi's taking out world championship titles.

It's not so great that the likes of Townley, Prumm and other top sports people are very unlikey to ever get the recognition they deserve within NZ(such as nomination for sportsman/woman of the year award.......correct me if I'm wrong), simply cause they don't play rugby, netball or rowing.

If anyone's thinking of going, but unsure if it's worth it or not, stop thinking (and start praying for fine weather) - plenty of great spectator positions around the track, plenty of action, lots of fun (as far as spectating goes).

Had a fun time watching. Katherine blitzed the rest of the women, but should have a harder time tomorrow against the guys.

29 women were there riding, so that's definitely great for the sport. Good on all of them.

Just listening to the crappy weather - I hope it's better than this for you tomorrow, Scott.

Oh, if you haven't been to Mercer for a while, you turn left to get off (and not right any more).
