I wasnt going to post in this thread again... but what the hell....
Lets look at a few senario's:
Kids trike: you know the 3 wheeled bike with pedals...
Kids leave them outside and you ask them to put their BIKE away.
You dont call it a trike, but instead you always call it a BIKE.
Chainbike: some of you youngsters wont know about these bikes.
It has a chain and has 3 wheels and handbrakes.
It was never called a trike but a chainBIKE.
So from childhood to adult hood a 3 wheeled trike is called a BIKE.
Modifications:
At some point in time you modify your bike to suit your needs.
Whether it be modifying your shocks, seat, handlebars or whatever part on your bike, you are modifing it for you.
Example: Onearmedbandit - has modified his bike to suits his needs to ride his bike.
A Trike is a bike that has been modified to suit the riders need.
So therefore it is a BIKE.
PS: I have never ridden a Trike but would love to have a go on one ....
But I have sat on them and they are really cool bikes...
Oh yeah and I can reach the ground on them no sweat...![]()
I wasn't going to bother posting a comment about this thread but as a lot of people seem to have extreme opinions, here's my two bob's worth.
Personally, I have some reservations with respect to whether a trike is truly a motorcycle and I have the same reservations about a motorised bicycle (if people actually remember them). The debate about whether they have 2 wheels or 3 and what that actually means is a valid one in a technical sense but probably not in terms of emotional inclination. Trike riders probably choose not to to drive the open top car alternative (like an MX5 for example) for for the same reasons that we prefer bikes. They wear motorcycle clothing, endure the same weather conditions as motorcyclists presumably because of the same sense of freedom and open spaces and dislike of cars as a source of enjoyment.
I find it surprising that bikers, who normally have a much higher tolerance of so-called non-conformists or individualists than most of society are so opposed to trikes and their owners. There aren't that many on the road and a take-over of KiwiBiker by trike owners is hardly likely, is it? What next, ban scooter and moped riders because they have little in common with sports bike riders? As I said, 2 wheels vs. 3 is a valid technical argument but not a good philisophical one. I'm more than happy to welcome them to our community, even though I wouldn't want to own one.
As a parting shot, there have been a number of trikes over the years on the Grand Challenge 1000 miles in 24 hour rides. Presumably, the Rusty Nuts committee therefore regards them as motorcycles and I have the greatest respect for these guys who have been riding all manner of bikes for decades in all conditions. I trust their judgement and tolerance.
bike, trike or fucking quike.
it's a cycle with a motor therefore a motorcycle.
But like a honda it is a motorcycle for fags and should be treated with the ultimate contempt.
A very percipient point that, Mr Dover . We don't ride motorbicycles, we ride motorcycles. No bi or tri.
