Bloody sad ... though there has been a lot of discussion lately re posting these sorts of things until the facts are known. However is it just me or is there a total ban on reporting motorcycling fatalities in the written media now a days. Before anyone starts to badger me for encouraging this thread, I would like to explain the reason I started the thread about this very subject a week or so ago.
About six weeks ago a member reported a fatality in Auckland of a biker riding a Busa. My Neice rides a Busa and lives in that part of the city 'from memory'. No, we dont keep in touch and she constantly promises to visit her old uncle but never does. Heck, I can even go for a spin with her now and I was the one whom got her into the bikes from an early age with her old man also riding.
What do you think I was thinking?? Was it her, do I ring my sister and find out. Shoot - what happens if it is her and my sister hasn't been told because they haven't ID;ed her etc etc. Hence why I asked other members what they thought on the subject. This 'could' be a 39yr old women but ages are often wrong on the initial reports. Imagine if you are a member living in say Wellington now whom has seen their parents off to the meet and then you read this? Still its a toughie as some members have pointed out. theres no real right and wrong but I am still thinking the facts should be clear first.

So people don't start panicking, it was a trike according to Te News.
Speed doesn't kill people.
Stupidity kills people.
Ouch, R.I.P To the woman. If the news is true.![]()
Leave the news telling to journo's and de Plod. I don't really wish to be reading that type of stuff in here. Been thru that before, it ain't farkin fun.
There's plenty of other crap to bitch about, why is every one concerned with printing their's (or others) mishaps, no matter how accurate.

It is what it is
heard it on the radio. them trikes look to be dangerous even with a sober driver and perfect conditions....followed one for a bit the other day...driver basically had to stop in the middle of the corner to be able to complete it without tipping over.
nothin against trikes, or their drivers, but they just seem too dangerous to me....

Been on the back of a couple. They can really motor but what can make them really dangerous, I have heard, is going too fast into corners and the front wheel can leave the ground and of course you lose all control and end up in the bank or drain or whatever. I presume that might apply to rear mounted engines??
I have been thinking of building one for years. It would be an automatic, three seater with detachable cover and have a full fairing. I would mount the engine in front rather than rear to help keep the front down and have heaps of compartments for travel and camping and radio etc etc. In other words a comfortable ride for me in my twight years. Now.... I just have to find out whom actually makes them in NZ. Use to be custom bike builders in Gisborne years ago, and I remember seeing pictures of some very serious large engined bikes. V 8's etc. Anyone here own a trike perchance?

Not that I am trying to lighten up such a serious subject either.

Posting thier own mishaps is fine cause it may help somone else that will come into the same situation to know what didn't work so they can try something else. Learn from the experiance of others aswell as thier own sorta thing.
As for posting about someone elses crash or 'mishap' unless the person involved oks it (or thier families if the worst..) perhaps it shouldn't be posted

Thanks for the warning but please do advise..... why not?? Has there been some heat in an earlier thread? Whats the difference? Nearly every thread I have read lately ends up being highjacked by personal catfights anyway.
Trikes are cool and just another part of the riding community. After all if they wanted to drive, they would be in cars right ? You generally ride trikes whom at times it can seem like driving. I had a mate whom had a 1200cc Trophy and also built a very large trike and he considered himself a biker on either.
PS. You didn't say 'PLEASE !!!'.... so it cant be too much of an issue.

id be more worried about a back wheel leaving the ground and flipping. the one i followed had very long forks, which was most of his problem...meant a very wide turn was needed, where there wasnt really room for one. ive seen the engines mounted almost in the same place as a real bike, which would help. leaves the whole back end free for seats or storage [or both!]
was readin in last months motorbike trader about trikes...letter on the very first page written by a builder. cant recall the name, but google should give you the name.
apparently harley-davidson is teaming up with an american/canadian trike builder and will be producing harley trikes...wont be unlike the servicar i think.
also get onto trademe...i think theres a builder there who usually has some up.
