Relative - the national Hwy system is superior - there are 5 times as many taxpayers to fund it.
The outback is just what it is. Also the Aus roads themselves are less likely to betray you with looses seal and shiny tar because of the way they are hot-mixed rather than chip-sealed.
But all said the riding is better here.

Its all nasty quartz chip seal out here - pretty grippy actually, but the thought of coming off and sliding is not an option - I reckon leather would last about 3 meters! And yes - we have shiny tar. No loose metal as such, but, with the gravel verges and 4x4 s cutting corners, there is enough loose stuff to make it interesting......
