the only aircraft capable of mach 1 in nz is the Hunter, and that's only in a dive.

an small asteroid or piece of space junk, travelling at 20 - 30 times the SOS though would certainly make a bang

They are claiming "something hit the ground"... reports from the mothership contradict this statement... our pilot is not drunk yet...

It's probably an old decomissioned Sky satelite or something. We'd better get used to it though coz we'll soon be passing through that part of the Galaxy where all the big Meteors live. Last time this solar system went through that neighbourhood the dinosaurs got wiped out - Global warming and terrorism are gonna become really tiny issues people.

where opinion holds more weight than fact.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.

That's because it didn't happen in Auckland. It'll probably only make 30 secs on the news tonight too, whereas if it had been in AK it would rate a 30 min special at least.
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!

Most of the travel agents should be able to help - chances are the Major impact will be equatorial or at least in the tropics I think.

The one that wiped out the dinosaurs wasn't a big one though....certainly not as big as the one that caused the moon.....
