    Cheers,

Umm,...that was my old man, sitting on a 1970 Mach III so I guess it's an H1.
I'm not quite that old !!

Check some of my older posts here for some classic racing pics of him at Ruapuna in 1970/71 on the beast.

Once again, thanks again everyone for your responses. I have no doubts that this won't be easy but at least we've got a foot in the door, so to speak.

    Angle parking

Depending on the road camber, angle parking becomes essential if your bike is to remain upright. You can adjust the angle to load the kick stand more (on windy days).

Thanks Wasp (ya cheeky bugger !!).

Now I have some more news I have just found out which astounded me.

Did you all know that unless specifically specified, motorcycle parks are only for motorcycles between 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Saturday.
Outside of these times, cars can legally park.
So if you get to work early (say 7.30am) and car is parked there, there is nothing you can do about it.
I said if this is the case then at least we could get it extended 7.00am to 6.00pm. If this happened then these would have to have a time stated underneath the motorcycle sign.

Anyway, the only saving grace here is that most cage drivers don't know this rule either.

I'll see what I can do here to.

    Cheers,
    NDMz

You're right, totally forgot about that one! I remember getting a helping hand out once when I parked at the one nearer the Lambton Quay end. Quite deep gutters and I'd parked with the rear tyre hard up against the kerb but when I came back a truck was parked less than a metre from my front tyre and as the park was full, there was no way to get my bike out! Waited but no sign of the driver so I asked a guy walking past if he could lift my rear tyre onto the footpath and then I managed to wheel it along and get down at the other end!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

    Thanks MikeyG

    An update so far:-
I've compiled a list of all of the bike parks based on the posts from here and also the few I knew of as well and presented it to Stuart Bullen today.
He's now going to do a report and look at ways of expanding the number of parks and also better utilising the existing ones.

More updates to come, watch this space....

Thanks - Local riders should really get behind this because I believe theres going to be a huge increase in the number of bikes showing up on park day as summer approaches. Already the weather is mild enough to ride even for us old creaky ones. I would really like to see some of the other members start a thread for their main centres as well and get their locals up and at this subject.

Don't be shy. Start a ' Bike Parking in Auckland ' or Hamilton or Christchurch, where ever you are and then local members can input same as what we are doing here. Its not just a Wellington issue though a lot of the 'locals' do commute some distance from the north mainly. Cheers all.

Now you people know of the "secret" one at the James Smith Carpark ay.
Ride around the barrier (yes, it's perfectly allowed) and park by the spiral.
Great place if it's very windy as it's sheltered, however I would recommend very securely locking the bike up for that very same reason.

Footpaths in Wellington are subject to the strictest of conventions regarding their use. The "keep left" rule is zealously enforced. Meandering shoppers, tourists and unsupervised children are routinely trampled underfoot by hoards of commuting civil servants. Welcome to Wellington. Keep left at all times or face the consequences.
