Would somelike like to run a basic bike maintenence course?

I am a newbie biker and and amsolutely loving being on two wheels

What I was wondering is if someone knowledgable on these forums would like to run a basic bike maintenence course? I know there is a lot lacking in my knowledge and I'm sure there are plenty out there who would like to learn a bit about their bikes.

Basic everyday roadbike stuff; maintenence, what to watch out for, typical problems etc etc

Obviously we could pay for your time (make me feel better anyway ) and I know it would be another good chance to meet a few other bikers.

So if you are a person who loves bikes and wouldnt mind putting a bit of time into newbie bikers then this might be for you also if you are like me and want to get a bit of knowledge let us know....

Also if anyone knows of such a course please let me know

The first thing you need to do is familiarise yourself with the owners manual.
If you are going to go beyond basic running maintenance then you would need a Workshop manual.
Think of all the bike websites in the World with 1000's of members,i doubt any more than 10 % have any kind of manual,that is the key.
That will give you all the basic information you need regarding fluid levels and basic running maintenance.
You then need a clean and tidy area to apply this new found information.
That being what you see in the book to what that part looks like on the bike...That word familiar again.
Then you need to determine how much you are going to do yourself and what tools may be needed to do so.
Once you have done that most things come down to mechanical principles which someone can show you.

I'll see if I can get a basic course setout from a motormacycle mechanical tutor I know at Weltec. He does the whole year long deal but he did say something about maybe doing a short course.

Roadsafe in wellington runs a maintenance course. For auckland I would just check out the websites of rider training schools.

Depends on how basic you want. Turn up to a few KB rides and someone will surely be able to show you how to adjust chain, check tyre pressures etc. Most of us are keen to see more people on bikes so unless you find a real arsehole they won't scoff at you.

Yea that would be sweet. I think I will pm him.

I personally feel pretty comfortable with most basic stuff but I just like to have someone go over it with me to ensure what I think is correct.

Also a run down on noises you expect to hear while riding around. Especially with two strokes.
