Come in GN 43YDZ, your time is up!

Hi 43YDZ, I have a few tips you might find handy on your commute down Murphy street in the morinings - hopefully you are a kiwibiker member and do see this.

When you have slowed to the point that you are weaving back and forward within your lane in order to stay upright I recommend stopping and putting your feet on the ground - this should do the trick nicely. Alternatively this might be an appropriate time to lane split, which leads me to my next point - Lane splitting.

Lane splitting/filtering is the act of riding your bike between the lanes of slow moving/stationary traffic, therefore reaching your destination faster than you otherwise would. It is not riding along in the lane with the flow of traffic, then as the traffic slows to a stop parking your bike between the lanes and waiting there until the traffic starts moving again (blocking the way of other bikers also in the act of filtering). You will find your progress within the traffic is greatly improved by actually putting your bike in gear and moving forward when you are filtering, this will also improve the disposition of the riders behind you, as will checking your mirrors before moving into the space between lanes. Perhaps this morning you were hindered by absence of any reflective material in your left hand rear vision mirror and were not aware of my presence behind you, though I note you did however have a fully functioning right hand mirror, which you may not be aware of as you clearly did not glance in its general direction.

On the bright side may I say that your were sporting a very nice armoured courdura jacket. I'm sure it will be useful to have a clean batch of unmarked skin on your torso that the doctors can harvest and graft on to your legs and ankles (or were those kevlar lined suit pants and dress socks you were wearing?).

    Thank you GN 43YDZ

Not at all, I suspect if I'd used it he would have soiled his nice neat suit pants and fallen off in my path - not an ideal situation for me.

Given your steed has 1000cc, could you have used it's voice to portray the desired effect by simply clearing it's throat with a handful or two
90% of the time spent writing this post was spent thinking of something witty to say. It may have been wasted.

    I'm sure I wouldn't have confused a 06 Honda NXR 125 with a GN

True, that would have been fun - must try to be more intimidating

I've seen one of them. That was the weirdest thing, He left the lights, both feet down... OK cool, then 800metres down the road, his feet are still down and barely 2 inches off the ground? Maybe he was nervous because of his open face helmet, shorts and t shirt.

Edit: Maybe he is trying to endurance train his quads or something. That shits gotta start hurting pretty quick!!

The other fun thing I saw this morning, An old harley, fair cranking into a nice left hander off anglesea street, scraping everything!! at maybe 30 degrees off centre .
When sports bike riders grow old maybe. Still, he didn't bin it, and didn't look anywhere near binning it. Can't have been a gang member obviously!!

I remember when I was just a wee kid watching the movie Easy Rider with my Dad, there's a scene where one of them (not peter fonda, the other guy) who's supposed to be a big bad biker rides along with his feet just off the ground. My Dad (who used to race his Manx Norton) said "you see that, it means he doesn't know how to ride".
I classify that as my first ever riding lesson.
    Ah memories
Like the corners off my mind...

way back in my time, part of the bike ride test , was doing figure 8's between the curb's of a roadway, cop would not pass you, if your feet went off your peg's,did my test on my Rd350,note still while riding the heavier bike that i enjoy still just how long the balance with feet on can last,

I don't want to defend bad riding, but the BMW tourers are pretty heavy. I can only just pick one up by myself - so many of the older guys wouldn't have a hope if they drop them at the lights.

Not to mention that those exposed cylinder heads ... they don't protect themselves
