This is true, although correct me if i'm wrong (it does happen and frequently) that fireworks are available at a certain time from ACT and i think by mail order or collection from Canberra.

Fireworks in OZ are great.....I've been to Phillip Island for the superbikes and the GPs (the GP in 2002). Theres 2 campgrounds, 1 for everyone who arrives on a bike and the other for the campervans and cars. In 02 the fireworks started up in the bike campground and went for about 5 minutes, then the campervan campground started and it went for ages. Then it was our turn again so for about half an hour there were big skyrockets and all sorts going off. fantastic display, heaps of cheering....and all paid for by the campers.

Bathurst was the same (2000) Clearly the boffheads on the mountain (Mt Panaroma) didn't read thier ticket information when they bought in fireworks aplenty. Unfortunately, we were meant to have strippers on the first night we were there but everyone got so carried away they burnt the stage down before the strippers or the band came on.

all that it'll cost is your soul

While fireworks are banned for personal use (fire risk) they seem to use any excuse to put on a public display; like opening and closing ceremonies for sports events.

From my limited observations they do it very well...

Re comments about firemen shutting up and how they should be wanting more action, those comments are in bad taste, a little off

The Australians I work with were rather excitied to discover that you could still buy fireworks in NZ (they're from Victoria, where anything exciting is banned it seems, and Queensland). Only resulted in one fence burnt down in the early hours of the morning!

One of the joys of parenting was letting off fireworks for my two little girls. I can still see their faces 'light up,' pun intended, as Roman Candels, pin wheels etc cascaded in shower of colours and sparks.

I went to the New Brighton Pier about two years ago and was disapointed. All I got was some silly bitch DJ talking for the sake of talking and when the fireworks started some god damn awfull 'musak.' It was so loud you could not hear the bangs as the fireworks exploded. Doubt if I will be gpoing again.

    i was a volunteer firefighter

-------- you get used to the abuse

THEY muck it up through lack of foresight, carelessness, watever reason so it catches fire

and YOU shoulda been able to put it out [preferably BEFORE it catches fire], saved poor puss and turned up ten minutes before they sounded the alarm .... all while making sure you don't step on the azalias or trek mud accross the porch

can't do that? nope - neither could most people ...... me either

Wouldn't the GST from thousands of tons of fireworks, more than pay for the damage? Or am I missing something here?
