Thread: NZ sees bike sales boom?

  1. #16
In the '80's a lot of older people rode scooters and bikes....my in laws rode around on CB and CG 125's,they had a car,but bikes were used for single person messages. The kids,7 including my wife all had motorcycles....now none have a bike.Nine people in one family (10 if you include me,but I'm not one of them) rode motorcycles 20 years ago,now they don't - that's the difference.

Granted, we've got a long way to go before we get back to what we were in the 80s (and when we DO we'll be a political force to vegemite with). But, the trend is UPWARD after being downward for so many years.

And it's not just young people, older people are taking up riding for commuting again.

Dunno if I'll ever see double and triple ranks of bikes waiting at the front of the lights like we used to - but it's better than it was 10 years ago when I could go a week and not see another bike.

And the trend is showing up in the sort of bikes that the manufacturers are bringing out.

Big Dave noted it in another thread. The trend is to sensible bikes that people can ride as a day to day thing. I reckon the era of the race replica is drawing to a close.

5 years ago I only had 2 bikes - now I have four but only 2 are registered - does that count in the overall ownership figures.

No, but it says you're one helluva lucky guy with a fantastically understanding partner or single

The sales figures have been posted earlier by Sd, they showed a definate rise , BUT didnt show the type of bike ,

I see IMHO strong MX bike sales , with scooters and 250 cc bikes , also Harleys are being sent over there by the container load ,,well a fare few ( enough to make me wonder where they are all going to !!~)

I also cannot understand the Sh market ..its the same here in Japan ,,lets just say what ever some sellers are smoking ,,,I want 1/2 a pound of the stuff

"Oh why is that biker waving at me???" DOH, its because we ride, not what we ride.
I love the warm fuzzy feeling you get when another biker waves at you...

It did take me a while to realise they were just being friendly and not confusing me for someone else or telling me something was wrong

So if you are riding down dominion rd or around akl city and a little dude on an RG150 waves at you, know you will be making his day by waving back

Total agreement....its all about recognition and "Cheers mate good to see you out riding"

If you're passionate about riding, give 'em a wave (even a nod of the head goes a long way)

I always try to wave, or at least give an acknowledging nod of the head.
Gives a bit of a feeling of brotherhood that you don't get much anywhere these days.
I don't wave to Metros on scooters....
I try to scare them whenever possible...

where the hell is Sniper when you need him ... this has turned into another "wave" thread.

If it's got two wheels it a bike, however .. and yes there is always a caveat, as far as I’m concerned, if you don't need a motorcycle license to ride it, it's not a motorcycle.

Still, wave and nod all you like .. the one thing that binds us all together is the fact that cages are more than happy to kill you, regardless of the license you hold.

The more the merrier, wavers or not. It makes us all more visible, both physically and politically.

    Here...

And now for the obligatory bitch on my part. Who cares if you wave or not?? You have self esteem issues or your penis is too small if you get all uppity about not being waved at. Grow up, stop drinking juice boxes and realise that you are not important as you think you are.
