Walk away, the guy's a time waster. As McJim said, there's a shitload of good 250's around.

I suggest telling him you expect him to stick to what he said on TradeMe or he can forget you (or your nephew) as a potential buyer. Report him to TradeMe using the "Community Watch - report this listing" icon at the bottom of the auction page. Not sure what they will do about it though as I've forgotten what the TradeMe rules say about these situations.
Also give your nephew some advice about not rushing the buying of a bike. It's very easy to get caught up in the emotion of buying when you see something you like. My 5 cents.

re: RG150 speed McJim
Check the speedo in 6th - its geared so that 8000rpm = 100k pretty much.
Usually I find I have 120k on the clock at 8k, and a trip down SH1 last week keeping up with the traffic generally I had 130k on the clock, which I reckon was about 110-120 maybe.
Oh hold on, my mistake, did not exceed 100kph ever.
As for the sale I think an 'offer' trade allows the seller to negotiate the price. It is not a spot contact (ie. a 'buy now'). So although unethical I don't think you would get far. Or want to buy something from somebody like that. You here about people lubing the motor up to disguise broken oil pumps and hiding all sorts of sins for a quick sale so it could turn out to be an expensive bargain.
Always consider an ownership / finance check when buying from trademe.
My brother-in-law recently did one on a prelude ( ... erm that a car to some of you) and found it was owned by a finance co. - and the guy selling it genuinely didnl't know as the last owners had stitched him up borrowing 4k on it the day they sold it*. Worrying eh?
(*poor guy negotiated with the finance co. and sold the car to us for 2k and gave 1k to finance)
