Welcome to Biker Angels Lissa.
I too am a mother. I took up motorcycling about 18months ago. My husband was dead against it (although he has now come around and is really supportive of my passion), my mother still hates it and thinks all motorcyclists belong to Black Power, and many of the mums at school definitely look at me sideways and raise their eyebrows.
On the other hand, there have been many people who have been supportive - in fact most have been supportive when I think about it.
There are risks in riding a bike, and I have certainly witnessed my fair share in the past 18 months (I actually had a cop ask me last night why I ride when I see what the results can be!!).
However, there is a thrill to be found on motorbikes that I have never found any where else. To me, it is worth what risk there is at the moment. Find some people who share your passion and rely on them to support you ignore the rest. KB is a great starting point.
Good luck with finding the right motorbike.
Cheers.
PS. Wait until you start racing and see what the local mums have to say then...![]()
Exploring pastures anew...
My daughter loves the fact that Mum rides a bike - and wants to get one herself - there are risks to anything you do - so just go for it and enjoy![]()
Stop procrastinating (sp) and GO FOR IT
If you keep on fluffing about, summer will be over before you know it.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy
Hi ya fellow Angel![]()
Being a mum as well I too have had those kind of comments, don't let it faze you!
I have not once regretted my decision to do this for me, it is the most selfish thing I have ever done in my life, it gives me complete freedom and I would do it all over again.
Me thinks it might be time for you to be looking for your new bike![]()
For ever action...there is a reaction.

For sure, just bite the bullet and do it mate. The most important people in your life (your kids) think it would be cool by the sounds of things, and it's something you want to do, so go for it.Stuff what those negative people say, they sound jealous or like they have never experienced anything thrilling before.

I can't lend you a small bike to learn on, but I will offer you a riding buddy (me) when you have your licence and something to ride and wanna go for a jaunt.
Mrs KD.
The wife started riding about a month into her pregnancy (having never even sat on a bike), as you can imagine everyone felt the need to put in their negative 2 cents, but she weighed up the risks and went for it. I know how addictive biking is so I was all for it, she's never looked back. Best thing ever she reckons and I have to agree with her!
(and nothing hotter than a chick on a bike!)
60% of the time, it works everytime
Go for it guurl!!! Don't give a flying f@#% what anyone else thinks.. it's YOUR life! You don't need anyone's permission or acceptance!![]()
I'm a busy solo mum with 2 beautiful boys (4 & 10 1/2) & a student @ Polytech. My bike is my PASSION, my soul & my outlet! I NEED my bike & that's ALL that matters to me!!I am in my absolute PRIME in my leathers out on the open road.. sometimes it's enough to bring tears to my eyes to be out on a beautiful day with good friends all sharing the experience!!!
I was riding when I was pregnant with both my boys, & my oldest son comes with me on the back.. has done since he was 5! he loves it as much as I do!
I WOULD definately reccomend doing a rider training course however. contact www.roadsafe.co.nz in Wellington & talk to Andrew & Lynne.. they're fantastic, & you'll learn heaps!
GO FOR IT!!!!!![]()
