It is a bit nerve racking, but beleive me, once you get into it (the lesson) you will think, what the hell was i worried about....
I got the bug while in Rarotonga 3 years ago, on a scooter, thought at the time, i want a bigger one of these, never riding a bike before, so when i got back to NZ i set about putting that right, bought a bike first, then BHS and i was away, im on my 3rd bike now, full license, riding 2up and loving it. Should have done this 20 years ago, is my only regret, but im happy with where im at now.........so go forth and conquer Lissa, you wont regret it.....

Too late not to become addicted...

A new GN250 cost about $3200... they are going out of production as well I was told.

New Yamaha Scorpio looks better, for a new bike. Only a few hundred dearer (about $3700) and a lot better spec.

For my first I am looking at a second hand GN250 hopefully in the next couple of weeks (crosses fingers) for my first anyway. After that.. not sure I do like the hyosung's but I am sure I will be on asking advice when the time arises.

What I really want to know.. is what kind of helmet to get, been told a bright one.

Black or dark colored ones can be hard to distinguish among traffic etc, next time you're out and about, check out biker's helmets and spot the colour that is easily distinguishable as a helmet as apposed to a piece of road or something. The idea is to be noticed, so cagers can see you, (as a lot claim they don't), but ideally try a selection on and pick the one that fits well (the people in the shop you go to will be able to show you what a good fitting helmet feels like, ie, you shouldn't be able to move it about on your head, won't pull up from the back and has no pressure points) and is comfortable. Often once you have picked a comfy helmet there is a selection of different colours and designs you can pick from, they may need to order it in for you. Don't ever buy a second-hand helmet!!
Well that's my advice, sure plenty of others will give you more/different advice. Happy helmet hunting!

You can't go wrong with a GN. Superb learners bike. There is some evidence that a white or yellow helmet makes you more visible to cages. Which may of course simply mean that they can target you quicker.
