I have had a go on a mates RF900, and it was nice but wasnt quite what I was after. A least that is one I can cross off the list

Sort of. Think about it; if you set up a data logger, how much time, in a month that didn't include a track day, would you spend in the second half of the rev range? Less than half the time, I bet. Hence I spend most ( >50%) of the time down that end of the rev range.

I think the common theme that is coming through is that I need to get out and try as many bikes as possible, im going to hate that. Thanks for the suggestions it certinly has given me a good starting point on what I want to go have a test on.
