    YouTube Vid

Step right up here folks, and be amazed at the marvels of modern technology. That's right, your's truly has posted up his first video to YouTube.

Taken October 2004, on board the mighty, mighty TLR at a Pukekohe Raceway "Track Time" day. You will forgive the pause at the start while I await my pillion to finish donning on her gloves, and the appalling "racing" lines I follow for the first couple of laps as I dodge potholes and oil spills from the previous days classic car meet.

I think the fastest lap that session was a 1:19, so its not exactly race pace, but not bad considering it was 2-up and I was doing my best to avoid the hazards scattered around the track. Also, I probably could have used lower tyre pressures, I've attached a small vid below showing the state of the rear at the end of the day.

Anyway, enough waffle, and on to the main event! Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you . . .

    Pip's Dash!

Cant remember, I've always run pretty decent rubber though. Had been great on the road, but wasnt impressed the way big chunks came off after a day at the track.

Durex would if it was trying to hold back 350kg at 240kph. Thank God Durex only has to put up with a few mg at a couple of feet per second. Even less in your case!

This was Oct 04, the last time I was out on Pukie. The camera is a little mustek MPG4 camera, about the size of a pack of cigarettes. I made a little bracket for it, and it mounts on the fairing bolts just under the front right hand indicator. Sits in there steady as.

ive done one similar. Just taped the camera on to the tank with a rag under it.

works awsome and you dont get any vibration.

well done. its hard to move the ol tl around the track sometimes.

Pukie isnt too bad for the TL, with it being fairly fast and open. I'd imagine the smaller circuit at Taupo for example could be hard work tho!

Having the camera on the tank has the advantage of giving you the speedo etc, but I like the nice clear angle you get from down low by the front of the bike. Plus the tank wasnt an option on the TL as it had a black screen on it.

Unfortunately the Aprilia doesnt have the fairing bolts so havent been able to rig up a way to mount the cam on it yet. Might need to bite the bullet and get a mount to go on the petrol flap.

Eureka! Just had a moment - the tyres were Avons, I'd put them on based on the recommendation of Kerry (I think that's his name, back in '04 he was based next to Motomail's store on Western Springs Rd - someone able to tell me the name of the business?). I'd had Avons in the past on my 400 waaaay back in the day and hated them, but the guy reckoned these were the shiz, one step down from where you have to start cutting your own tread (or so he said).

They were SHIT. Really shit. Didnt grip until they were warm, didnt warm up for ages (not helped by the fact he sold them to me going into winter, and one of my specific requests was a quick warming tyre). Gave me my one and only tank slapper on the TLR in the nearly 3 years I owned it. And then around the track they fell apart. I took them home and finished them off in the drive way - actually, thats one place they DID stick, the black line is still visible there, over two years on. Must try to find that vid too, actually . . .

So, disregard my above comments about them being good on the road, they were utter crap. Worst tyres I've ever run, and even without the track day would have been swapped out well before they wore out. Will never by Avon again, dont care how highly recommended they come.

I'd love to borrow one of those cams sometime if I could... Some splitting footage I want to shoot...

Also, there's a guy in Auckland hospital with a request. KLOWN's mate had an accident and commented that he'll quite possibly give up riding. Too many dings, not fair on the family etc.

Shame - he's a really (REALLY) nice guy.

Anyway... he was hoping to shoot some footage of the ride up the Coatesville Riverhead Highway but now wont get that chance. Anyone able to help? I'll provide the DVD etc to burn it on, I just don't have the recording HW

You are more than welcome to borrow this cam if you like, the quality (as you can see) isnt outstanding, but its tiny, records an hour and a half, and its el cheapo so I dont care if it gets trashed. Plus if it does get trashed it records onto SD so chances are the footage is still recoverable.
