www.denniskirk.com have filters etc for the VTR - all in US dollars ours is about 66 cents per US at the moment. Service is great and delivery on global air post is 7-10 days. Post can get expensive but often worth a look compared to NZ prices.
K&N listed at US$94 - that's $140 odd NZ plus shipping - not sure what they are worth in NZ. They also list a HIflo for US$30 - a direct replacement for the st ocker - excellent quality (HiFlo actually made filters for many makers).

Be aware that your Honda dealer may 'tut tut' any warranty claim that may occur if you use non stock engine parts during the warranty period.

To be honest in road trim I'd be surprised if a change to A k&n would be noticeable - might should faster but lets face it if you gain 2 hp you would not notice it.

Airbox mod sounds sound if it was starved at low revs, but I would have thought it would be limp at the top end if flow was restricted - any improvement there?

BUT,, you need a stock standard bike, as far as the intake and exhaust system goes. If you have an after market exhaust it will most likey take away, rather than 'give' extra power because an aftermarket exhaust will have been dyno'd to suit...

Then again, you also need to hack a piece of the filter element itself and once you cut it off, you can't get it back on... Cock up here and it costs you about $120+ for another element...

Lord only knows what anyone else might have done to your bike before you bought it - if it was second-hand of course...
