    Palmerston North Airport Parking

Does anyone know if you have to pay to park a bike at Palmy airport? I'm flying to Auckland next Saturday for the U2 concert.

Never flown from Palmy before so I have no idea of the car park layout.

Just called the airport to ask about charges for bike parking and they assure me it's the same cost, but I'm not so sure...

Does anyone have any experience with parking their bike there?

    Cool

Dont forget that you also have to pay departure tax from Palmerston North airport.

Just chain it up to the outside fence...... and then when its time to leave..... unlock it and just ride on around the barriers to get out.

Or there must be a KBer in Palmy North, that would let you leave your bike at there place for the night all locked up.

Yeah, $5. Found that out today - shocking stuff! LOL. It's not a biggie - I quite like seeing new places and I've been to Wellington airport heaps now - time for a change!

I'm not too bothered about the security of it - it's only a ginny after all. Nobody's going to run off with one of those! And it's fully insured (ooh, there's a thought.....money towards a new bike!).

Just don't want to be giving any more dosh to the airport than I have to! Seems unfair that bikes would be charged at full rate - I mean, we don't even take up a full parking space.... (I guess that's something that's been debated ad-infinitum tho).

Yup what Shaun said. Bike... unattended in Milson??? The only way to reduce the chances of it being nicked is encasing it in concrete.

And then it's only reducing the chances. You'll probably find it tagged, moved, on its side and bearing scorchmarks

From Wellington? Hardly! I'll take the car if the bike's going to cost me the same in parking - less hassle with luggage and clothing. More petrol, of course, but much easier.

And as per my other post - it's only a ginny. Nothing terribly stealable and it is fully insured. If I worried about thieving scumbags all the time, I'd never leave the house.

So Palmy's not too flash then?

I'm new to the lower North Island so I'm still learning this stuff.

Not arsed about it being nicked, but don't want it trashed and left for me to ride home cos then I have to deal with the cost of the repairs!

    Car it is.....

It's taken me all this time to learn about Wellington and the Wairarapa - and still got a lot more to learn yet! (moved down here in January and spent the first 6 months in Porirua wondering what the hell place I'd moved to and could I go back North please....). Upper Hutt's MUCH better! Well, we like it anyway.

Took me 4 years to get a handle on Auckland! LOL

Still think I'll err on the side of caution and take the car. Shame tho - was quite looking forward to a ride to Palmy. Not been on the bike in weeks cos hubby's elbow is still busted and he can't ride until it's either straightened out with the brace over the next few months or until it gets operated on

Nought wrong with Palmy North........ I came from there.

    Milson is a alright area......

Just dont go down to the other end near Highbury/Takaro area.. thats where the hoods/gangs hang out.
And I can tell you it wasn't like it years ago when I grew up in that area.

At the end of it all, I think the car would make more sense. Luggage room, security, no worries about storing or flying with you helmet and gears.

I'm sure if you're determined to take the bike someone from PN will be able to help though.

Yeah I reckon....... I went to Takaro Primary..... and the whole area back then was called Takaro...... it was later on they changed the names.. to Takaro and Highbury... I grew up in the street where they now have all the gang killings (well the first one (killing) was a few houses up from my ol' home).

Only known gangs back then, were the "Mothers" motorbike gang...... and even then they were fairly quiet.
