Thread: Fuck. We've just been given notice on our place

  1. #16
Life can get tough eh? When I lived on Waiheke Island I shifted 6 times in a year, once we had to get out a week before Xmas as they were renting the place out for 10 times what we were paying, just for a few weeks. It was pretty crazy bouncing around like that with a 4 year old and a baby....and a shit load of motorcycles to house as well.I'm still here 20 years later - gives me a good story to tell my kids when they try to moan about how tough life is.

We had our offer accepted on this house on Xmas eve,I thought it was a pretty good present at the time....I don't like to turn good news into bad news just because of the time of year....

    Merry Xmas?
Sorry to hear about that, impeccable timing eh? Have a beer or two, scream yell and spit then find another renter.
Buy a house when you are ready to, not when someone makes you.

    Good luck...

Might as well be paying that on a mortgage, at least you will own it eventually.

She's 30?! Hell man you could pass her off as 25! Better money that way! I couldn't afford her.

    Rent vs. buy

Bad luck! That timing sucks. Probably best not to buy in the short-term, due to time pressures, but it is a good idea to plan a purchase in about 6 months. There is a tidal wave of mortgage renewals coming up from the boom 2-years ago and as the interest rates are about 1 point up on that time, the market is going to slow even further than it has recently. It will be the time to buy and then you cannot be evicted (unless the missus goes nuts!).

Also, nothing wrong with buying in Auckland. The market has had it's correction, values are fair by economic standards. You will always have an investment that will, in the long run, always appreciate. Good luck!

Hopefully you can find a decent place quickly.

I cannot beleive (a) people will pay rent of that magnitude and (b) have the dosh to afford it.

Down here that amount would pay off a pretty hefty mortgage - like say a farmlet one.

Eight years of that amount of rent is equal to the price of a really good house down here (not counting the interest of course).

I have a place in West Auckland which comes available (in theory) on the 10th of December. Wanting to sell it, but I doubt anything will happen with it this side of Christmas. Could offer it short term to tide you over.

PM or call me if you are interested in becoming a westie. You will however need a few things, like black shorts, a black singlet, jandals and a Holden to make a complete transformation.

The downside of that is that they don't offer basic Auckland slalaries of $100,000 per annum down your way though..I know..I checked.

Bugger - sorry to hear about that Dover, t'was a nice little kit n'kaboodle place you had there. Not great timing and it seems like you just had settled in really well there!

You still interested in being South Side or looking to being further out? Feck, you had already sorted out those decisions and now it looks like you'll have to do it all over again. Bollocks.
