This is my rifle, this is my gun.
This is for shooting and this is for shooting (but 'fun' works too)
They shall not grow old as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the evening,
    we will remember them

Sure it wasnt someone playing with a laser pointer? Lasers work on light similar to remote controls, so generally invisible.. or did i misunderstand your post?

massive cheer to ya man, although im sure none of us responsible lads and lasses would EVER dream of speeding on the motor-way... (anyone ever been passed by that mad ass geezer on the red cbr600rr with the motormart branded pack rack? phaaaark)

On matters of speed limits on Wellington's Motorways, I was going UP Ngauranga Gorge the other day thinking how absurd it was that the speed limit was 80kph. I can understand the limit for the downhill traffic given the blind lefthander at the top and the increased stopping distance because of the grade BUT these problems just don't affect the up-hill lanes. I had decided that there was probably some legal reason why they couldn't have two different limits, one for each direction but then I noticed that the down-hill limit changes to 100kph about half way down (just past the blind bend) but the up-hill limit drops from 100kph to 80kph BEFORE you get to the foot of the hill. I understand the Police regularly prosecute up-hill speeders. Am I missing something? can anyone explain why the up-hill limit should be so slow?

Could be something to do with the number of slow moving trucks in the uphill direction, i.e. keeping the speed differential down. Only a guess.

It's probably to do with keeping the speed down for cages and bikes to match the snails pace of the buses and trucks. Cages switch lanes like there's no tomorrow if a bus or truck is going up. I've almost been taken out a few times going up there because cages switch without warning both left and right of slow moving vehicles.
Because it goes from 2 lanes, to 3, then to 4 and back to 3 before finally settling back to 2 at the top, cages are weaving all over the place to get past.
I'm only wearing black until they develop something darker

    Perhaps..

its because of the traffic lights at the top and the 'sudden' offramp for Johnsonville? OK for locals but visitors could cause all sorts of havoc crossing lanes and/or coming up behind a lot of stopped traffic at the top. I agree its a bit of a pain but I keep to the limit. Its only for a short distance anyway though as usual it doesnt stop the cagers passing me at great speed. I have noticed, and commented numerous times, on the speed of the local drivers and that they seem to think all riders are always going to be doing at least 120 kph so give them the dirties when passing. Hay, I am quite happy to cruise along at 100 most of the time as I am in no rush.Thats why I ride.

Thursday morning was sublime. Got up at 8.30am, washed and polished the bike and went for a spin around the Bays, around Oriental Parade, into town and back home.No wind, wonderful sun, no traffic and still on holiday. Best ride in months. Finally had a chance to lay the bike down a bit more without been blown backwards by that bloody wind. This holiday period has been terrible weather down here in Wellington. All my relatives up North Auckland saying how nice its been. Grrr.
Then came the day when cages were confined to zoos.. and the bipedals ruled the earth again.. Tu@ advt # 666 Return of the beasties

Don't you guys realise yet that the police are solely responsible for the reduction in acc stats this hol period !! ????????? Pffft !!!!!!!!!!!
Just wait for Monday and the news, and all the crowing thats going to start.

Thurs night last, there was a special op on the L/H car park and I heard a whisper yesterday that lasers will be used on the Normandale over bridge again shortly. So if you are on the back wheel from Melling watch it ! Gaz.

Speed limits are just the dumb NZers way of dealing with badly designed roads... thats why it 80 km/hr up there..

[Traffic lights at the top? Been gone for ages. Or do you mean how the lights IN J'ville cause a backlog to build up onto the motorway?]

I swear the fancy speed signs on the gorge were meant to (according to news articles at the time) allow 100 km/h but drop to 80 when conditions were not so good. Never seen the uphill go over 80 though.

be warned....there has been a bike cop using a hand held radar just before the jville offramp too...getting those naughty speeders who are accelerating after coming up the gorge and before the 100kph signs..chase cars are there after the johnsonville on ramp.. and I will remember to tootle from now on...
Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead
Do not walk ahead as I may not follow.
Do not walk beside me as the path is narrow
In fact FU*K off and leave me alone

Yeah I got pinged the other day coming down the MW from Jville towards town, Bike Cop got me at 123k, doh!

They seem to really like the M-Way, but don't give a crap about the Oriental Bay / Marine Drive / Shelly Bay area
