Insanity Rules' Darwin of the week

Well with a handle like mine you'd think I'd know a thing or two about insanity so I thought I'd add this thread for a bit of entertainment. Feel free to add your own but they must be either personally experienced or viewed on our great (sic) highways and byways.

This is mine for this week........
Riding down the river rd in Upper Hutt (State highway 2 with a 100Km/h limit)I witnessed a 50cc scooter in the safety lane ridden by a young bloke (17-18ish) wearing a hoodie, board shorts and Jandals.

Just like to say..... No! No! No! if your going to do that you deserve whatever you get. I felt like schooling him on what road rash looks like. I have a wicked scar I earned through a pair of jeans on my thigh from 14 years ago, spill on smooth ashphalt cornering on an oil patch.

Sitting in Woodville last evening eating some dinner and watching the world go by after rideing back from Castlepoint, a guy riding some type of cruiser bike, not exactly sure what it was cause I was taking more notice of the small 7 or 8yr old boy on the back with shorts T shirt and jandals, the rider, presumably the father had on leathers.
Hmmm, makes yu wonder, worse case senario and he would live with a haunted mind for a long long time.

Yep Scooter on the motorway, ringing the living crap out of it doing no more than about 65 K's but attired as per the above description.

So far I think Alice's Darwin takes the Award for this week though!

Does it have to be a bike?

Just saw a car driver try pretty hard...

Following a car at a four laned approach crossing two laned Brougham Street in Christchurch. Lane 1 for left onto Brougham, lanes 2 and 3 for ahead, and 4 for right onto Brougham.

Guy/Gal at front of queue in lane 3 turns left onto brougham as the lights go green, across one queue going ahead, and one going left.

    Nice.

I have a scooter one too. One of those flimsy 2-bit thingys. Middle-aged woman rides in casual gear, no protection at all except for bicycle helmet. Rides off in the cycle lane, crosses roads through pedestrian islands and so on. Doesn't know if she's a pedestrian, cyclist or motorcyclist.

    Probably all seen similar?

She also had a youngster perched between her and the bars, maybe 6 to 8 years old, no gear except bicycle helmet also. I have a grainy cellphone photo, but need a better shot next time I see her.

Yep, it was the thing to do 20 years ago (done it myself when I was a lad), but I have since realised that a bee in the eye causes enough pain to justify a helmet. Good protection stops MORE than the worst case scenario.

While down south (Ashburton) I went out to lake Hood (for those playing at home), and spotted a 96 GSXR11 sitting outside somebody's place.
Yep, very unusual to see a sports bike (do we call GSXR11's that?), in Mid Canty (Cos from my experience of growing up there, it is straight and boring!

Anyhwo, While returning from lake Hood, I saw the bike in question coming toward me with rider in FULL gear, and girl on back in Very little! She was in a helmet, but was in a singlet!

I said, "Put some bloody clothes on woman!"

I guess the message is; Dress your pillion as well as you would dress yourself!
As with the case of the guy with his young son earlier.....

Of course I am preaching to the choir here.
