Wink Cop chase, Te Rapa (14 January)

hey, there was a police chase down Te-Rapa straight/SH1 at about 10:45 pm on saturday night, it was a red/black VT250, maybe late 80's early 90's..doing 130-160 with the cops about 70m behind.
it was kinda wet, and dark, i just wonder what happened, the rider wasn't wearing much gear either

Mine showed 145ish on the speedo, and felt like it had a bit more left. Maybe it's just the red and black ones

Of course, many people have mentioned the discrepancy between the speedo and reality ... and that's backed up by the roadside speed signs, which always showed me less than I thought I was doing.

if you can run on a scooter you can run on anything, all depends on traffic and local knowledge... a vt250 would be easy in some circumstances

the red/black Vt from the late 80's was a bit of a special; it had trick paint and go fast stripes.

Obviously with that extra fast paint job it could easily do 160.

Honestly though, I sold Hondas in 1987 and the VTR250 COULD do 160-170km on its speedo. Dunno if it was way out but it seems probable that it could indeed nudge 160 (hell, a 1969 Ducati 250 could do 160!)

i'm sure they will get caught if they are **** (du|\/|b) and ****y (c0cky), not a huge amount of people could get away with it but as i said depends on conditions and local knowledge (and rider skill) you can do it on a faster 250 easy as pie almost anywhere if you meet those criteria.
