Com on now... the first place in the Sthern Hemi to kick out some power, they got gold n coal, 1000 people (surely not to much inbreeding)
Mind you things might have changed since '75.

And Kaitangatata,(never heard of the place, got me curious) at least as of 2001 Reftonites were more qualified, and the Male female ratio is almost equal. compared to the Kaitan' place...

    ave I just bitten???

    Don't worry GB.
Balclutha isn't so much a community as one great big family.
The gene pool developed a leak years ago and all that's left are a couple of damp patches on the bottom.
...she took the KT, and left me the Buell to ride....(Blues Brothers)

    Yeah,lol, ya just bitten!

BTW Kaitangata ('Kai') USE to be big - pubs, picture theatre, grand Post Office, banks, Police station, large bus company, railway line going to it, massive coal mine etc.
Now it has a pub, 4-Square, fish&chip shop, panel-beater/garage, heaps of empty houses (and a lot of the used ones are run-down), empty sections everywhere and that's about it....

CB and I might not be coming back on the Sunday - we may well do what we did last year and lurk around the top end of the Coast for a day or two.
(Went to Karamea last year - magic ride over the hill - just watch for milk tankers on the tight bends, almost no no visibilty on some of them).

Oh wot a place, went there for the first time on a bike back around 2000, boootiful!!! Though no tankers to worry about, it was late at night dark, and very dense fog....and BUGS, well the fog and bugs screwed me visor, opened that... and then me glasses were stuffed, I ended up moving along at about 20kph, and my eyelids were working overtime trying to keep my eyes clear...

Enjoy your ride through the Haast and Glaciers...

Another spectac' place on the gateway to the West Coast... I have only ever past through this place of Makarora, but this place looks like a mighty nice place to stay... who knows, maybe our KB get together Rally could be held here one year?
