    It's not a Bantam but there's a definite BSA-ishness about the tank. I'm going to guess at a 1928 A30

Not staking my life on it mind you...

I think the man is sitting on a 1946-49 Peugeot P 54 CL, a 100cc two-stroke. It's missing its foot guards and is a little the worse for wear but it's a great little bike produced at a significant moment in French history.

Now, was there some talk of a prize?

    Here's the brochure for it:

Close to my thoughts (the shape of the lettering on the tank gives the game away), but I feel it is somewhat older than that - I would pick 1930-ish.

The 1945 models from just about everyone were 1930s models; no one had time to develop much that was new during the war, concentrating on churning out military service bikes. The bike in the photo matches all the key design features in the brochure.

    Okay...

Quite right. Then it's probably the model immediately before, the one-year-only 1939 P53CL?

The photo below could be better but seems to show the same part-chrome tank, the angled plug placement, domed head fins, and twin-port engine.

    Still no prize?

    Can't argue much with that.

Bike in photo has an exposed flywheel that would not fit in the cases on the bike shown in the brochure, hence my stab at the age.
