Thanks for all the well-wishers people, I'm glad I'm still able to kick and fuss over what a plonker I was (don't we all?) - if I left all and well enough alone (not doing the usual "survival" instinct response) and let my bike ride it out, I would have just dropped into the corner more and made it. I decided to try and counter the bike and ended up lying in a nice comfy bank in the shade, contemplating the lessons that biking can dish out quite quickly.
In my case, I was away from riding for a while (the little pootle I did with That Scottish Rider That Shall Not Be Named, was my longest in three weeks), I had not been doing my usual reading of my motorcycling literature (Hough's Motorcycling handbook of sensible riding, Code's book of knowing when to twist the wrist, etc. al).
I know That Scottish Rider That Shall Not Be Named has been going through some soul-searching moments right now, and he is wrestling within the grip of moral reasoning - I in no way blame him, he just happens to have a passion for riding as great as mine and have ridden many, many enjoyable km's together in the company of like-minded souls.
Whenever I hear/read about other riders having their own moments, I always feeland have that "there but for the grace of God go I" mantra in the background. I just hoped whenever or where-ever should it happen to me, I would be able to live through the experience and be relatively intact (no guarantees on that though! :eek5)
Bike bits can be replaced, I had no dignity or pride to lose (since I have lost those long ago!) I suffered very little injury...I did more scratches to myself doing gardening the other dayJust have a little pain in my right back, which lets me know I'm alive ... and I've felt worst from some of my powerlifting gym sessions!
I love biking with a passion, it goes beyond much of my words to have that soul-lifting feeling when you are enjoying your ride and being one with your bike, your environment and the moments that pass when you have the pleasure of that little twist of the wrist.![]()
My little ol'Hornet isn't that badly off (I know you were just waiting for this part! "How's the bleed'n bike you plonker?" I hear you yell)
- Broken indicators (I was intending to replace with LEDs anyways!)
- Bent handlebar (I was intending to replace with another set anyways!)
- Smashed Stebel (Oh poopies, I was so enjoying that...WarlockNZ...next order you do, I'll have another thank'n yew!
)
- Scratched left hand Hornet decal (Wah! I's not so happy about that)
- Scratched left hand can (Hellraiser said to include it with my claim, along with the boots...helmet...leathers which was destroyed beyond recognition...)
But my gear didn't even get dirty! Most of the muck I got on it was from the recovery operation of my reposing ride
All in all, I got off pretty damn lucky, all things considering ... when I surveyed the scene, aye caramba ... a few metres either side ... methinks my Asphalt angel was doing some serious intervening somewhere! :![]()
A special note of thanks goes to Dover and Vix, Hellraiser and the several other motorbikers who stopped to lend their assistance. A good bloke in a brand new Holden even offered his assistance of a trailer, garage and the use of his cage to tow my bike back up!
Today, I've done a good looky over my biker...all is well, just need the time to get the parts delivered to me and installed. Will be driving the cage for a little whiles methinks!
Once again, To that Scottish Rider Who Shall Not Be Named - Thanks for your friendship, it heartily filled me with the feeling of wellbeing just knowing you. To the others who have watched, read and shook their head when they read about my idiotic posts about biking and other blarney, I extend my acknowledgements that I couldn't have made biking this enjoyable in my life without your input and sharing of knowledge, skills and daftness!
I'm alive, I'm well, I'm reflecting on all the things I need to do to become a better, safer rider. Long may we all do so too!

sorry to hear about the bin mate hope all is well , I was going through there at about the same time , (But earlier obviously), did you guys come up from the Clevedon end , cause I saw a couple of bikes , when heading to Maraetai and I think there was a bin there as well , a 900ss I think, yes a bad day for bins.
I think it doesn't qualify, since Dover said I should have been riding a Gixxer...which meant I could clear the trees properly
Anyhows I got off dang lightly considering the other options (which I shudder to think of
)
A nice soft punga tree to rest my bike against, cool bank to lie on..almost like a holiday no?I would have started a thread on this, but The Scottish Rider Who Shall Not Be Named needed to exorcise his demons in his cranium.
I would have called it "Second Binning Practice With McBinn...er That Scottish Rider Who Shall Not Be Named!"
And no disrespect to those fine Scottish personages which I have had the honour of binning with, if'n ever I was in want of binning, it would be with the Scottish I dare say!![]()

T'was a full moon that day? If'n I known that, I would have never dared the Gods of Riding, suffice to say that - not one of us goes out there riding with the intention to suffer a non-planned transportation movement. We ride because we dare to do the things we love to do so much!
If we were sensible, we would never entertain the idea of riding two wheels of freedom, the attendant joys and miseries means it can be a rollercoaster ride. The high highs, the low lows - but does that stop us? No! We do all we can to ride as safely and enjoyably as we can (or so I hope!)

Been away from here for a little while, got on here just now and.....DMNTD & gijoe! I have been here all of 2 mins.....gijoe, so glad that you were able to grin and spell check.........take care mate OK!
As for the scottish rider???????? hmmmmmmm dont take it personally eh?
More photos from gijoe's botanic expedition.
Gijoe, is that some ancient Asian dance designed to get the wee beastie up the bank of its own volition?
I don't think its working.....
Diarrhoea is hereditary - it runs in your jeans
If my nose was running money, I'd blow it all on you...
Actually, I think I'm channelling David Bellamy at that moment?
"And, look, the luscious and fecund fronds of the Silver Fern has given brilliant birth to a stupendous fruit! A red Hondaberry, desposited by a lesser known species of Plonker Gittus Maximus Idiotus. Truly, it is simply a marvellous miracle of that interface between nature and the world of men...I'm simply beside myself with the litany of life that bedevils the beauty that is New Zealand's own!"
Oi vey
And as for that manic grin, apparantly people who have met me, think it's certifable..just missing the white strait jacket!![]()

Even McJim's wife is not immune from the 'Scottish Curse' remembering the New Years Eve 250 ride......................
Birnam Wood has come to Dunsinane? Oh woe, oh a thousand woey woes! That Scottish Rider Whom We Shall Not Name has broadened his game, sharpened his bodkin's axe and gone gunning for more of the same!
He shall not tarry long on the twisties,
He shall not cast down the plate of L
He is simply That Rider,
Of which we cannot Name!
By the twisting of my throttle,
I think something wicked this way comes!![]()
