Yeah even at age 33 and (relatively) resposible she hates me biking (heightened even more because I am living at home again) but she won't ask me to stop.

I hate to see her upset but I can't see myself not biking once the bike is fixed.

Ah, dammit. Sorry to hear that. Glad you are OKish. Had a similar myself not 15mins ago, but didn't kiss the road. Old coot in a black MkII Zephyr (had it since new?) pulled out on me, saw me at the last minute and stopped - right across the lane!! Went behind him, 'voicing' my displeasure all the way.
Sometimes it's only luck making the right call, as to what to do in those situations.

Might pay to go for a checkup - ACC will pay since it was an accident, and if you need any physio or anything you're best to find out asap. Sometimes the adrenaline can hide wrenched muscles and stuff.

while it is good you are ok - just reread your 1st post - a car came thru a stop sign you were doing 40 and when you hit brakes you fell off.
From 40kmph you should be able to stop quickly and smoothly in an emergency situation - other wise this is just going to keep happening and you will always have the other guy to blame - while it is a pain in the arse - take a look at your own skills and start working on them so it doesnt happen again. the only protection we have is our eyes and our skills, the helmets and leathers are to limit damage.

Good advice If my neck is sore tommorrow morning I will definately go to A&E or my doctor's for a check-up

I accept your point. The road is a sharp right hander and I had begun turning just before I had to brake, that is why I believe I came off.

I am a careful rider and have been to the BRONZ RRRS course. Perhaps with a few more months experience there may have been a different conclusion but at the moment I am pretty happy that I avoided hitting anything substantial.

Just slightly OT, but as you live in the area too.... I had someone pull out in front of me on Whitford Road at the top of the hill some time back, ie going out of Howick, over the bridge, up the passing lane, left, left, right and at the crest of the hill there are often cars crossing the road. There was another accident there yesterday afternoon....

Lots of bikers use that road.... so be aware..
