    bmw xpo

I think thats whats it's called.

Theres an ad at the moment for the BMW XPO. The camera pans over a LOTR-esque mountain range and shows a 6 (?) Series BMW Saloon driving through a mint twisty road. I suspect that this is the Milford Road but am unsure, can anyone confirm?

I hope it is 'cause I'm going to be there in a week and a half .

I thought it funny that they show the BMW driving along twisty stuff, mention the test drive, then show that same saloon driving down Queens St (?) and over the Harbour bridge which, in reality, is what the owner is ACTUALLY going to do with his high-po German cage.

Good (bridge) point. I just assumed. I'll pay more attention next time I think.

I have a friend who bought a new Range Rover and takes it off roading and has been up Muriwai beach. Then again, he is the sort of person who would buy a brand new Volvo to take along to the destruction derby.

You're right though, it is the pretentious nature of "my vehicle is capable of such and such, however I don't take advantage of that, but if I chose to I could" that motivates some individuals into purchasing vehicles with capabilities well beyond their eventual use.
