The solution is quite simple really. If all the whiney greeny hybrid drivers want to take bigger vehicles off the road, [trucks, Maui's CRV's RAV 4's incl. What about 4WD cars?] they need to get into power, have a referendum, vote and then if they're successful, all those who voted in favour get to compensate all those affected. Agreed? Didn't think so! It would be easier on the other hand to legislate against boy racers cars that have been dangerously chopped and waking people up with their hideous noise at 3am in Morningside[You know who you are rotary boy!]. Yay! A new crusade people!

Hybrid's are less fuel efficient than SUVs. If you want a fuel efficient vehicle buy a 1.4 litre diesel VW Polo. It does 70mpg on the motorway and 50 around town and it doesn't look like a shoe.
If a man is alone in the woods and there isn't a woke Hollywood around to call him racist, is he still white?

Less fuel efficient that SUVs.. Come jim. Less fuel efficient than an efficient car of the same size more like it.

Nope. Top Gear did the figures and a diesel SUV is more fuel efficient than a Prius. They were getting 13mpg around town in the Prius at one point in aggressive stop start traffic, and struggled to do more than 40 mpg on the Motorway. Two little gutless engines do not equal fuel efficiency, especially if you are an even slightly enthusiastic driver.

Build into the equation that the Prius uses more resources to build and is expensive to dispose of "safely" when it becomes an ex-Prius and you have one of the least resource efficient cars-that-look-like-shoes ever made.

A 1972 Toyota Corolla SL coupe will kick a Prius's butt in terms of efficiency and performance. The Prius is a great leap backwards. Just like Public Transport.

Nice work Jim2. Suck on that crybabies.

Hey, there's another thread about the cops using a F250 truck. Shit, they must be good! I've decided to go diesel with my RAM 2500. 6.9 Cummins. With 800+Nm, it's got more pull than Crasherfromwayback.

Finally, some sense. Steve Tyndall drives a Prius, you know. Wanker. I'd have a lot more respect for him if he tooled around in the eco-unfriendly S600 or similar that I'd buy in his position. Pretentious twat.

And has anyone else noticed how current generations of previously competent 4WDs (the Nissans come to mind) are looking all pussyfied and Cayenne-like, and shipping with what look suspiciously like low-profile tyres?

Gimme a Series 70 any day.

Still, I don't understand why people like driving these trucks around town, pussyfied or not. They're slow and they corner like the Empire State Building. If you want a fast family wagon, why buy a Cayenne when you could have an M5?

Heh. M5. Anyone here seen 'Star'?

FWIW, I have a Camry and a Vitara. They're both equally horrible, in their own special cagey ways.

Fossil fuels are bad, so when I'm bored, I like to fill 100-liter drums with petrol, take them up the beach, and shoot them with tracers.

    FYI - TV3 tonight:

Inside New Zealand: 4WDs: Danger On The Road 8:30pm.

May or may not be worthwhile - seems pertinent to this thread.

    .
can't chuck the border collies in the back of the M5, and it gets stuck on the grass at polo too easily.

i've just bought a toyota echo for commuting to work (6 litres/100km) but i'm fucked if i'd take my family anywhere in it. i'm fucked if i'm getting on the highway in anything that small. the ST-X is for that.

and SUV drivers? what about all those small-dicked HSV/FPV drivers with 300kw on tap?

I think you got your sides mixed up with the evolution argument!

That's why we need really tall vehicles to stop our knuckles from dragging on the road.
