Where should I direct him?

Got one in the garage I can sell him. It got rode down the ramp and 360'd into Frank Kitts lagoon (Wgtn Waterfront - X*Air) on Sunday. A bit of a fixer upper... he can learn how to fix it before he gets on the road!

Ok to topic .. I have seen scooters and all the shops in Wellington .. Sawyers, Wellington Motorcycles, TSS (Alicetown) and motormart - I think I even saw one at Boyles .. you just got to get out there and look .. .but I would check out trademe .. cos there are normally heaps on there too.

Heres the advice I gave:

Here is why I dislike scooters:

they are slow.
this means that they can't keep up with traffic, but since it is a motorvehicle you cant (or shouldnt) use bike lanes. They also dont have enough "road presence" to ensure that other road users give them even a modicum of respect, and they arent fast enough to get out of trouble, just get into trouble.

they have small wheels.

this is an issue that affects stability, and braking and turning and all those good things.

Often they are badly maintained or not maintained at all.

as an owner obviously thats your call, but bad maintenance and aggressive traffic do not make an easy mix.

Munters can ride them on car licences: I personally think that anyone riding any powered vehicle with two wheels (i.e any motorcycle) should have to obtain a full motorcycle licence including doing advanced riding courses which involve countersteering, advanced braking drills and all those good things. Basically learn to operate the vehicle and control it so they arent a danger to themselves or anyone else.

Because they're cheap and slow people dont think they need proper motorcycle clothing, including decent fitting helmets, proper gloves, jackets etc yada yada.

Im not a hater, just a relatively experienced motorcyclist who really* cares about you, and doesnt want to see you dead, killed by some suburban mum in four wheel drive.

sobering thought: on a scooter, you are the only vehicle that a 4WD is faster than. Due to the type of inadequate cocksucker that buys a 4WD and drives it round town, (Mums with 9 kids, a 40 a day habit, and gin for morning tea, or guys with tiny cocks and even smaller minds), they WILL try and dominate you on your pissy little fucking scooter (like the Spree for fucksakes with the PINK writing ...... faaaaark).
