Angry Suzuki dealer in Te Awamutu

Don't - don't - do not - I say don't get anything done at Wilksbrooks in Te Awamutu.
Mt bike developed a miss (cough), resulting in me spluttering and backfiring home from Bennydale. Couldn't find anything obviouse so into the workshop it went. They did a full service and cleaned out the carbs.. bla bla bla. I had asked them to take it for a test ride, as the problem wasnt always there around town. they had the bike for a week, I picked it up late on Friday 5:30ish. Cost over $300. All sorted - Saturday I headed out with a couple of mates and it was runing the same - occassional backfire, but now it had a flat spot as well, got an hour away and it slowley got worse until I could'nt get any further - stuck on the side of the road.
There's no way they test rode it - I noticed on the bill they charged me for adjusting and lubing the chain, and checking the sprockets - We're talking about my VX800 - its a shaft drive?????

I know you are really pissed off,but you should get hold of the shop owners & let them have a another look & you explain the frustrations before putting there name on here, remember every body can have a bad day

    You may be right but....

So telling me porkies is just because they had a bad day, people should do what they charge you for - not lie. When your in a service industry you should be honest and up front.
It wouldn't be so bad if I could take it back to them to fix properly, but they stuffed it up so much I had to get the bike recovered from the side of the road on Saturday morning - you think I could get them on the phone.
So now its in a bike shop in Huntly - and there'll be another bill for that.

Okay,so the bike is now in Huntly, dont let that bike shop do anything, untill you have spoken to the Suzuki shop, get them to speak to each other & sort it out, then contact you,Put the issue back in the original shops hands
Otherwise,as you say you will end up with two bills & you will be more pissed of,right??

Does everyone realise that we, kiwi bikers, are going to end up getting shit service from all motorcycle dealers if we continue to bad mouth them all on KB?

I'm going to have to take my Number plate, KB patch and KB sticker off if I want to avoid abuse next service I get!

Yea - but the guy in Huntly tried to get it going for me, hoping it would be a simple fix and we could get back onto our ride - which was going to Auckland to trade my VX in on a real bike.
I'm impatient realy and should've just waited until Monday to talk to the bike shop in Te Awamutu, but life's to short.

As a new KB I was shocked at the lack of support and after sales service by the dealer I went to. I will never be back to that dealer. I think as a service industry bike shops absolutely suck. They need to lift their game and the internet is where the name and shame should begin.

What your saying has merrit - but there are good bike shops around, Honda in Hamilton and the other one just before it (Road & Sport I think) have always given me very good service, The shop in Hunlty (Ginger's) were great - picked me up in a short time, tried to get it going for me and even offered to sort out a ride home for me - the machanic there seemed to be very good. It was a positive experience.
My Brother in law bought a bike from Holeshot - fantastic service.

That's the spirit - we should really focus on the positive and ignore the negative on here (at least until the shop has been given the opportunity to make good)

SpankMe and his merry team of mods do a splendid service of keeping this website running - if too many of us have a go at the bike shops on here it can reflect badly on the site owners - many of whom have friends that own or run bike shops.

Hopefully we'll soon here the shop's point of view since most of them are on here too.

being a dick online and not letting them have the opportunity to fix things in my opinion is equally retarded. I'd fully understand it if they read this and told you to go get......
I think you should get a mod to delete this thread.

However, I recall several laudatory posts in the last few weeks about excellent service being received at bike shops.

I see no reason why someone who preceives they have received poor service should not make that fact known. We do it IRL, if I receive bad service from anyone (not just a bike shop) I will tell friends, workmates etc "I do not recommend XYZ, they treated me badly". I do think that there is an obligation on the part of the OP to maintain the thread with future developments of the "They put it right" or "I made a mistake, it was not their fault" variety.

Word of mouth advertising is the best there is, but for it to be meaningful it must go both ways. And there have been threads where someone has complained of the service they received and other posters have defended the complained-of, taking the OP to task for unrealistic expectations, getting things wrong etc. So the shops do not lack defenders if unjustly accused.

And , of course, always the shop should have a right of reply. I wonder whether it would be worth having a policy whereby a mod forwards a copy of such complaints to the complained-of and invites them to state their side of the story?

Under the Consumer Rights laws the original repairer must be given first importunity to repair it.You can only go somewhere else if they refuse or take an unacceptable amount of time.It could genuinely be their fault, something else the repair uncovered,or something totally unrelated.Going behind their back is your first mistake.
