    Australian 2006 bike sales figures

The official figures have been released for the number of new bikes sold in OZ in 2006 - and it was 120,000!! The biggest surprise is that the Suzuki GS500F is number 2 in the Sports Touring Category.

It's interesting as a comparison with NZ. The figures speak for themselves. I've included the five road categories. The tables are arranged below as:

    1. Super Sports

    2. Sports Tourers

    3. Naked Bikes

    4. Adventure Tourers

    5. Cruisers

That's interesting (puzzling?). The latest BIKE mag shows figures that say the CBR1000RR is the top selling sports bike in Britain. This despite all the hoo haa that says the GSXR is top dog. Now a similar result in Oz? As I said interesting.

Interesting that the Honda VTR is 3rd in sports tourer's although odd that SV1000S is classed as a 'Naked' when it is no more naked than the Honda.......Honda still sold more than SV which is interesting despite not being as upto date and poor fuel consumption.

There must be a road category missing. Obviously.

Interesting that Supersports outsold all other classes, I would have thought cruisers would take it out.

The only Hyosung mentioned was in a general "road bike" category. It was the GT250R, 878 were sold nation wide. In the same category are the Bug Jive 1002 sales, and the Honda CT110X with 2363 sales. No surprise as the little CT is the national "Postie Bike".

There are categories for off road bikes as well. I could post the figures if anyone's interested.

Are there figures for dirt bikes? I've googled and I can't find any of this info.

The figures above were strictly for road bikes. Here are the off-road and dirt bike figures as well as the top ten manufacturers.

    1. Enduro

    2. Off Road

    3. Trail

    4. Motocross

    5. Manufacturers

A Triumph in the top 10 in each category is a notable achievement.
I read that Honda makes more motorcycles in a day than Triumph make annually.
So thats a real good result for the small fry in the game.

Thanks a lot Hillbilly, I'll put that in our club newsletter. Now for my next Q, does anyone know where to find the NZ figures?
