Not saying the Police do nothing about this just saying the impression we get is that they do nothing about it.

When something like that happens in front of a cop it would get dealt with then and there. If the cop doesn't witness the bad driving themselves they have to rely on witness statements and most often people can't be arsed or their statements are too weak to act on if there is just one witness.

Speeding gets dealt to with regularity because the cops are equiped to apprehend speeders and because there is a plethora of half wits who are too stupid to know when and where they can and can't get away with it.

I reported some dangerous driving, Police sent me a letter saying they were investigating and have not heard since. This geezer was overtaking along Lake Road with oncoming vehicles....it was crazy. He was a Security guy but was not on a call out......just late.

There is a lot of bad driving in CBD which should be Policed.

ALL kiwi drivers seem to have a love affair with the right hand lane.
I fear that Ixion's post above may be an example of being quite safe on the road really.
The scary part is where you see people using the motorway onramp and going straight across to the RH lane.... (Why, on a completely empty road??? Does the left hand lane give you cancer or something???)

The most notable example is on the Auckland motorways (north and south) where there is an extra lane on the left, with signs saying "Slow traffic lane" or such like words.

Now I LOVE those lanes. Cos 9 times out of 10, no matter how congested the other lanes are no-one AT ALL will be in the "Slow Traffic" lane. Noone is willing to brand themselves as slow and move to the special lane. Cos it's on the let see, and that'd mean they were slow drivers.

So of course I zip over to the "Slow traffic" lane , and blat past all the traffic that has been holding me up. And they look at me with this aggrieved, puzzled look .

And all perfectly legal and proper of course, because it is a lane specififcally for Slow Traffic and everyone knows that i am the slowest thing on the roads. So, manifestly , it's a lane specially for me.

same gator follows me over the bridge, and up the hill.

Yep, you gotta watch those damn gators, as any Yank will tell you, they can be more dangerous than crocs...! What they were doing on the road in the first place is anyone's guess!

pffffft, come out east... home of shocking driving. Where people pull out of left hand side streets, onto an 80kph road, straight into the right hand lane (aka fast) and gently press the accelerator to crawl up to 50. Its not a one off either.

I have lived up north - they have nothing on the Dunedin Drivers. They defend every piece of road around them with homicidal tendancies. They will bloody near run you off the road if you try and pull in front, behind or along side.

I must admit, I just about fall asleep when driving a car around Auckland. I went home today to pick something up and borrowed a car from the office. If it's not waiting for pointless traffic lights to turn red, then it's either waiting for morons to remember green means go and then taking 5 minutes to get to a grand speed of 42kph. Heavens forbid if there's any action in front of them or it's "hit the brakes"

I'm glad you noticed that, because, driving around in my job it used to drive me mad, particularly on Remuera Rd and environs. You could almost see what passed for a brain cell, cogitating, as they "reacted" to the threat of the moment! Normally, the flasher the car, the more lightning slow the reactions.
