The northland rides seem to be popular, so why no local ones?
Even on the odd occasion I've posted a ride up, hardley anyone comes now....

i think its been a combination of things to be honest in the last 4 months there have been a few incidents and near incidents , combine this with the holidays christmas , track days etc.. people outta nerves and money cos of it, id say at a guess the rides will happen again very soon

Patrolling Bacon kills it for me DEATH. Stealth missions when I know the buggers are changing shift/scoffing donuts is my preferred modus operandi.

The Norfland rides are popular for us on this side of the bridge because of motorway travel. That's not to say heading south is bad just that we get more road riding in our day without an hour each way of Motorway.

I'd say for me it's the inability to know the skillsets of other riders, I remember doing a few of the coro rides last summer, and there would be people that were slower, and a fair few people that were faster and overtook me in places that I wasn't happy being overtook.

If people are gonna buzz me going along next to rocks and sea on a coro loop then I'm gonna stop riding with groups and hang with friends instead.

Nowadays I've a small group of maybe 5-6 people that I'll ride with, having said that however might hook up a coro ride for a sunday in a couple of weeks, after all, if people like BlackYoshi and Juzzer didn't run Coro rides when I started out I'd never have made the friends I have now.

Yep, I'm with GIXser on this. Main reason was the major incidents that have taken place over the last few months and it's left the big group ride thing a little up in the air.

I think they will happen again. I for one did enjoy them but you had to fair move in order to get your lunch on time when 30-40 bikes were on a ride and it could take up to two hours to score a burger. Key was to get there as close to first in first served so the worms didn't eat you out while waiting for lunch

I've just been riding with a few like minded riders of late and pulled the pace back somewhat since my off last year, even though I now know what caused it.

Usually i wouldn't agree to this - but to be honest i don't do jack until the sun goes down and there is a less likely of me getting a ticket or dying.
That and i keep breaking the bike

I used to go on a ride just about every weekend, but now with the higher costs of petrol, I just cant afford to be spending $80+ a week for a sunday ride. Then add that cost to a new set of tyres every few months, and its gets rather silly.

Perhaps its because of the trajic week end when 3 KB'ers died? From my own perspective, I would hate to have seen what those that came across the accidents saw. Maybe people are just a bit wary?

I don't like riding in groups - to me riding is getting out on my own for peace and solitude, being on a bike is for me,not other people.I really hate them invading my space....having to talk to people.

cus guys like you and me often ride in a group with a select few i have noticed less and less group rides lately they are mainly going underground with a usual few ridng around, i only ride with a few people as well.
i don't like advertising to the pigs nor waiting at every stop and all the political bull**** that seems to go with alot of rides. most of the clevedon runs with the 250's are great the big bikes and more experienced riders just shoot off aheda but we all meet up at the same places for refreshments and it's a great day for all, sometimes we hang back and help out the 250's and teach them some stuff etc.. those rides are cool and there is never any whining/crashing (following people way to fast for them etc getting passed left right and centre) no political kiwibiker ****, it's just a good old fashioned ride like they used to be, but segregated as such usually.

i can remember when i was on my 250 going 160k+ thinking i was going fast when you went past on one wheel in an orange flash... that was the rides of old, they don't exist anymore really. sad but true... good to see you posting again death. those were the days when someone got pigged it was a rarity. those were the days when people rode at their own pace, people didn't argue about pointless **** on the forums. people just rode, had fun and enjoyed themselves.

Pretty much sums it up for quite a few Tony. The large group rides can have a tendency to up the pace somewhat.

It's been since then that the large group ride activity has come to a standstill.
