The instructions are simple...
Met a bloke today who has one of these. Has had it 20 years if I remember right. He can't ride it anymoredue to arthritis from rubgy injuries (dangerous game, that). The upshot is I think I have convinced him that a modern, upright midrange tourer like a SV650N, F650GS Bmw, ER6-N etc would be a good bet to keep him riding.
Question is tho - what would his XS likely be worth? Apparently it is immaculate. No idea of the k's etc. Can't find any on/gone on TM.

Pffft if the fella can't ride the 850 then he wont be able to ride any of the bikes you mentioned to himall of them are less upright ride position & less comfortable than what the 850 is/was. The only advantage of those other bikes by comparison is the weight & handling
A mint 850 would be worth a bit of coin all the same. there was a 78' 750 a while back on TM that was in reasonable condition with a buy now of $4700, it wasn't that mint & didn't sell.

I had the XS 1100 but all ways kept looking at the 850, but there were not many second hand ones for sale and the only ones around here were new.
But there were second hand 750's, but I wanted a Maroon 850.
If you were closer I would be in for a look and ifhappened I would take it home.

Theres a 750 on tardme now . Its been made into a cafe racer and looks good he wants about 4k for it or 4500 with a spare bike

Yep,Im responsable for that conversion with my one off cafe solo seat & the modded figlass replica GB400 TT fairing & screen. I also mounted & painted them both for the guy. I really enjoy this type of fibreglass work & its amazing how a couple of simple changes transforms a bike

As far as I know, it doesnt have any issues & is a good runner. The spare bike is a little rough but still eminently do upable as well. Id say go for it!!

And after I had that 1100 I did not want to trade down in size and up in price to get the 850.
For me the XS850 was the bike I wanted and that got away.
