Bike parks in Auckland and Wellington

I recently had to go to Welly on Business (Monday) and was amazed at the number of bike Parks in Wellington - I've only seen one bike Park in Central Auckland but there seems to be an allocated motorcycle park in every second street in Central Welington.

Is this just my imagination (coz I have an allocated parking space under lock and key in central Auckland) or is Wellington really more motorcycle friendly?

Yep, there certainly a few park around for wellington bikers. Although you have to in early as they fill up pretty fast.

Yeah wellington is more friendly for the whole motorcycle industry, do you know how much the wind contributes to the turnover of mirrors, indicators and fairings?

    Otherwise its great!

I think that's because KBers gave them a fright

The WCC was considering an $8/day charge for parking a bike. They got FLOODED with email submisssions. One councillor told us they were impressed by how well organised we were ...lol

Have to admit, there's a real conciousness in the area about 'alternative' transport to cars. Pushbikes get well considered too and of course the train system (although getting a bit crowded) is bloody fantastic.

Britomart station in Auckers is a bit sad. Was there at 5:30 on a week night ... could have pulled a wheelie the length of the platform and not hit anyone.

I've also been secretly campaigning to the person who looks after the motorcycle parking (I work a few desks down from him) to get more as well. He asked me what I thought of various spots around town.
Hopefully we should see even more again soon

That's coz they don't have trains that go anywhere near where anyone actually lives. The trains are fabulous if you want to get from one industrial estate to another but if you live in a house then they're useless.

I had a call from a local authority doing a survey on public transport in Auckland - they learned I was all for public transport but drove a car to work (didn't have the bike then) they asked why I didn't use public transport - I said coz the nearest bus route that goes anywhere near the CBD is 5km away and the nearest station is 10km away.

Actually I go in quite often to meet the missus for lunch and have always found the large park on something or other street to have space left. None of the others but this one does....

Other thing I noticed is TL1000's, ducati and big hondas with, if your lucky, only a disk lock protecting them! In London you wouldn't last ten minutes. Viva la Wellington!!
The real mystery is how come that fat bastard Hurley has never lost any weight.

Major faults. Plural. That's why we don't get all hysterical when our lattes ripple.

carpark buildings offer free bike parks, its wikid! So handy once I left my key in the bike and it was still there when I got back
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Hi McJim, there's a thread you can find on CBD parking in jaffatown. There's quite a few about, and you can use Wilson parking too.
The Auckland transport plan is entering its consultation phase soon as part of that process may result in more bike parking for Auckland.

Having said that I have seen cars at weekends taking up some of the entire bike parks - the one on St Paul St for example is usually covdered with cars. Notably the wardens don't get them towed for this.

I was in Wellington last week though and the amount of parks was much higher - not only that but there were 20-30 bikes in rows along some central pavements!
